NW CO (looks like that area anyhow) has some highly underrated scenery.

My pleasure to help. Glad you were able to tag out early. I love helping people be succesful in thier western hunts. This was just outside Meeker, CO to the west.

Based on his handle, that can't be too far from South Park, can it?

To build on my previous post about the scenery…

Buffalo literally disappear in the landscape near where this Ag was hunting. Not necessarily in Meeker as many/most of the buffalo that make their way east from Utah into CO are simply never seen again before they get that far. They'll make their way back west after a quick sighting by locals, etc.

But imagine not being able to find a big ass buffalo in similar terrain and trying to find a buck like that.

Even though there are good bits of open and easily glassed terrain, that's a damn fine buck for the area. Not the biggest one can find, but a definite trophy.

Haven't kept up with the point reqs for those units for a few years, but you could definitely get a tag without much issue (maybe 1-2 pts at most I think) as recently as 2019.

He got my dad set up on an Elk hunt this year. Dad wasn't successful in getting a bull down, but the hunt, itself, was a resounding success.

That's about right. Second season is same. The rut started Friday so I missed it in second season so third and maybe fourth will get the full on rut.

Here is the full story of the hunt for those interested.

Opening day third season rifle Colorado and I hunted a spot Hoyt recommend. It was about a mile hike in, up 700 feet of elevation so we were wearing bare minimum clothing hiking in and would layer up after sweating out our base layers at the top of the hill.
We saw tons of deer, lots of does and smaller bucks the first day but didn't see a buck worth shooting.
That evening leaving our glassing spot we jumped several does in a saddle just behind our glassing location and made note of their location.
On the second day we hunted a different location that morning and decided to move back to the location Hoyt suggested for the afternoon hunt. As we were hiking back to the glassing spot we slowed down and started really picking apart the saddle with our binos where we'd seen the does at the day before and sure enough there were does there again. We decided to just sit down where we were so we didn't bump them and watched them from about 200 yds away.
We hadn't sat down for 10 minutes when my buddy who was sitting about 10 yds away from me starts frantically hand signaling me, a buck just walked out by the does.
The buck wasn't in my line of sight so I couldn't see him at first but one look at my friends face told me this buck was a shooter. Just then the buck walked out into my line of sight and I immediately knew he was a shooter. I laid my gun over my pack but had grass in my way so I quickly and quietly slid down the hill I was on about 5 yds to get a clear shot. I was laying prone, gun across my pack on an awkward side hill slope. I heard my buddy whisper 'he's 206 yds'…perfect. The wind had actually just shifted and was blowing our scent straight to the deer so I felt like this whole scenario could blow up at any moment. The buck was walking away but then turned broadside and I didn't waste another second. Shot went off and he nose dived, sliding down the hill about 20 yds and he was done! I couldn't be happier with this buck and can't say enough how much I appreciate Hoyt helping us with spots on this hunt.

Great story!

I just looked up points for rifle 3 is only 1 point needed and 4 pts for rifle 4. I guess the rut happens right between the two?
