I am looking for a trap I can set up, put a feeder or bait in the middle, and remotely push a trigger button to close the gate once the hogs are in. I am not able to hunt them often, so instead, I am looking for something I can set up, leave the ranch, and remotely have access via a camera and notification once hogs are in the trap so I can close it while I'm at home and not at the ranch. Does anyone have recommendations?

We have been happy with our Jager Pro. Dont have any experience with others, but the Jager Pro has been great for us.

That's the one I've been looking into. Do you know the difference in The Corporal and The Private? Both are able to be triggered from out of town via app?

Yes, they can both be triggered via app. If i remember correctly, the difference is the Corp comes with the panels, and with the Private you would have to build your own "pen" with cattle panels, etc. If you ever plan to move it, get the Corp. If you are going to leave it in one place, the Private would be an option depending on your pen building skills

I follow a guy on facebook/youtube that uses a big pig trap with a hog eye camera system, and they seem really nice and does all the things you are wanting. They are expensive though.

How long do you plan on leaving them in the trap before you get to them?

Hopefully once I know they're in, I will either fairly quickly go dispatch myself or have someone do that for me. Why do you ask? Will they tear the fence down etc?

I've never trapped a hog but from what I watched on youtube, leaving them in there ruins the location for future captures.

So do it quickly then. Are you able to dispatch them while in the trap? I've heard not to as that will ruin it for future trappings as well

Straight BS. Kill them in the trap.

It's no different than shooting hogs under a feeder.... & I bet you've killed hogs under a feeder in the morning and had them there the same afternoon.

"But the blood!" "But the scent!" "But, but, but"

I've killed hogs and not a day later a boar was happily rooting the other pigs guts out.

I know nothing about it but was watching the videos put out by the trap companies. They said something about hogs don't like to sheet where they eat, so if they are there too long they'll sheet and ruin the area. They will also verbally signal to other hogs the danger.

By the way, those hog trapping videos are addictive.

I asked because I wasn't sure if you were looking to trap during the week and then get to the ranch on a weekend or days later. Sounds like that's not the case.

Where is your place? I have a buddy that builds and sells electronic traps. If close to BCS I bet he would set one up and let you demo it.

Apache is correct.

Anything else is just hog wash.

I trap lots of them on our place in Washington county and they don't survive long after they're caught due to stress and dehydration.

I have an Ag mechanics student that is currently working on a design for a corral-style hog trap like the Jager Pro and Gamechanger traps using electronic components from Amazon. He has already built and tested the gate and trigger components, and is currently working on a corral model for the upcoming major ag mechanic shows. It will be for sell after then. If you are interested, I can get your contact info and talk to you more about it.

I've had them come back fifteen minutes after you shoot the first one.

From what we have researched, it's the feces that is more of a deterrent for hogs entering the trap than the blood.

Desperate hogs do dumb stuff. If you can find what they want (a sole water or food source) - they'll suppress their better judgement & come back.

…not that any human correlations could be drawn…

What size trap?
Also curious about the research you have done, is it available for review?
BKS_Aggie08

The trap is 8' w x 66" tall panels making an octagon of about 20' in diameter; however, you can add more panels and gates as needed to make the trap larger. You could also build your own corral out of panels. For the camera system, we are using cellular game cameras that are easy to come by and affordable. Our goal was to design and build a trap that more people could afford.

As for the research, most of it has been reading and reviewing how the commercially available traps function along with research papers from various state extension offices.

I've used this for the past 5 years on my property. Love it. I'll see if I can post some pictures.
