That or late-70s Hank Williams Jr.
The hat, beard & shades look was popular at the time, between Hank Jr. and Charlie Daniels. The old man never came out of that phase.
Past a certain age a man should pick his look and not change anymore. Adopting new fashion trends starts looking ridiculous for mature men.

1978 or so. That stone cold killer looking dude in that stylin' yellow shirt is me. .

Surprised no one has said it yet:

"You'll shoot your eye out, kid!"
Honestly, my Cousin and I were talking about it after dads funeral. Its a wonder I survived my childhood. That's a .22 mag I'm holding there. The BB gun was issued when I was 6yrs old. The .22mag was shortly after. Other guns followed soon.

When I was still in single digit age, I was hunting via horseback with .22s, shotguns etc. Driving a CJ 5 jeep around the pasture and on hunts with paying hunters in it.

I rode that horse across rail road trestles, rivers and everything else. Zero forethought of ever possibly being in danger and completely unsupervised a good deal of the time.

Parents and CPS would trip smooth out if something like that went on today.

A hog hunting pic from the 70's. A young Apache may or may not be in this picture.
I don't know who the guy in the black hat was, but I think he may be wearing moccasin boots??

We're family friends of the Hindes for almost 50 years. We were at Little Roy & Pam's wedding many years ago.

I remember seeing that picture in the Texas Trophy Hunters magazine & just Googled it because it was the first one I thought about when I read the thread title.

Here's a copy of that pic with Big Roy & Graves in a lighter mood.
Peeler was a South Texas legend, here's a link for those of you that don't know about him:

Here's another pic of him (on the lead horse):

The 1st Deer thread motivated me to go through some old photos looking for my 1st deer pictures.
I'll kick this one off with a favorite of mine:

My maternal Grandfather, R.O. 'Bob' Jackson, Sr. '51. (4th from L to R).
He was a helluva shot taking many deer with his Winchester Model 70 in 30-'06.

Bob Jackson was a longtime steel fabricator in San Antonio, Texas (Jackson Steel Company, Inc). The rifle he used for decades was a gift to him from a grateful concrete contractor just starting out in San Antonio. My grandfather helped him land a big job and he showed up with the rifle as a show of his appreciation.

how did y'all kill any deer without high dollar camo to hide you

Love these old hunting pics - thanks for sharing

Pretty sure that Graves Peeler has more B&C mule deer kills than any other individual. He and Roy Hindes made a number of trips to the Kaibab Strip in Arizona after big muleys.

Tom Wipplinger. Jack Wipplinger's brother, they grew up in Red Lodge. Tom lived in North Platte and died of a massive heart attack pretty young 20 or so years ago

Ok, well not who I thought, face is kinda hidden but he looks identical to Tom Toolson outa Jackson Hole, I hunted with Tom in the late '80's until mid '90's, he's still guiding in his 70's, his son John does the majority of the hunts now. Tom was the best sheep guide I've ever known, true mountain man.

The guy in the red shirt is still guiding and has almost guided 100 sheep kills in the state. When I spoke with him in July I think he was at 97 or 98. He said he would retire at 100. I called him last week but his daughter said he was up at sheep camp.

Better late than never but here is mine.…..this was my Papo back in 1956 and a current pic how how taxidermy in 56 has held up. Lots of great memories with that guy. As a kid I thought it was always the hunting part of it he loved so much. Turned out that was just something extra that was included with a great weekend hanging out with kids and grandkids.

Never forget the time I shot at a grackle 20 times with my red rider and claimed it was broke……he grabbed it and folded one up on his first shot and said keep practicing.
