Yes, in the Oryx chassis. I followed Howa's barrel break-in procedure and it is extremely accurate. This is my second Howa and I am really impressed with both. The first is a 1500 in .308.

I thought the ELD-X was more comparable to the AMAX than the ELD-M. Could be wrong though.

And as soon as my 162 gr AMAX handloads run out, I'm switching back to the 150 gr ELD-X for my handloads.

ELD-X was developed after the AMAX o theoretically have terminal performance at a wide range of velocities. It has different load data thanthe AMAX/ELD-M.

I have it as well with a bull barrel and the original body. How did you do the break in process for that rifle?

For the first 10 rounds, I would fire one round and clean the barrel with patches until clean. After the first 10, I would fire two rounds and clean, firing 3 sets. Then I fired the last four of a 20 round box all at once and cleaned again. I am pretty sure that is the procedure that Howa asks for.

While firing, I was also adjusting the scope so firing the box of ammo wasnt a complete waste.

I do all my rifles this way and they are all very accurate. Some dont believe in doing this, but I do.

I did this with my Howa 30-06. I guess it worked, but I had a rub issue with the Tupperware stock that I chased until I put it in a B&C stock. With the Grendel in mini action, I just shot as much as I could during the first month with it leading up to deer season. It cloverleafs at 100 and I'm super tempted to slap it in a MDT Chassis and make it my local comp rifle because it's cheaper to shoot than my CM.

Likewise. I shoot hogs with 123 SSTs in Grendel's and Creedmoors but only my 16" Creedmoor will shooter the lighter bullets accurately.

I had the mini action but could never get it to shoot well. I had it in an MDT chassis and then a Sharps chassis loved the action and it was amazingly quiet suppressed.

I didn't do the barrel break in though. Sold it to a retired guy at the range. He couldn't make it shoot either. He's rebarreling it to something 6mm.

I might try another one but the super light version.

This might answer your question some.

Amax and ELD-M are same/same. The ELD-X has a thicker jacket than ELD-M, and with the lock ring is kind of a higher BC SST. The TMK has a jacket thickness that is right between the ELD-M and ELD-X, and consequently penetrates a bit farther than the ELD-M.

My cousin has a Mini action 6.5 Grendel that he shoots deer, hogs, and coyotes with and all he runs is the Hornady Black HPBT, he has had no problems with them.

I know my uncle was running HPBT handloads in his 6.5CM and its killed plenty of deer, hogs and coyotes also. All of these are on STX Whitetails also.

Good to know, as it's way easier to find than the sst
