Can't remember the last time I posted a photo, so really hoping this works to avoid epic fail...

Woke up this morning to find this big fella limping through the yard. Open wound on his right shoulder. Initially thought it was damage from another buck's antlers, but note the perfect circle in the center. I guess the tip of an antler would also make a pretty perfect circle too, but wondering now if it's a bullet hole. Nothing came through to the other side. What do you think?

Being that he is just going out of velvet I would not suspect that aggressive of sparring yet to cause a wound like that.
Looks like either a broad head glancing cut or perhaps an injury from jumping a fence, hitting a limb etc.

Dang. Was it one of the posters on here who said he almost (or did?) cut himself on an old broadhead that was lodged inside a deer he was cleaning?

Most mulies around here are in a similar stage of velvet, so I would not think an antler would do that this time of year.

My money is on fence or some other trash, or a broadhead. Doesn't look like a muzzloader or bullet hike either.

I have no experience in archery hunting, but it makes sense if that's a broad head that hit shoulder blade.

Naw... too much damage.

Looks like a broadhead hit the shoulder directly and didn't penetrate.

Where did that happen? This buck is in Angel Fire, NM.

We find them in elk each year. Lots of them are in front shoulders.
