I've dipped Copenhagen since the 80's, switched to Copenhagen Long cut when it came out. For the last several months it's just sucked, it seems dry/crumbly and doesn't appear to be anywhere near the same product. Current cans all have sell by date of 12/4/22. Anyone else notice this??

ETA: the new cans suck just as bad as the product.

Not every place carries it, but try the Natural extra long cut. No drop of with that one if you can get over the plastic can.

It's a sign. Just quit. Especially with the price being what it is now, you'd probably be able to purchase more things that go BANG just with the savings.

My Dad laid to rest his cousin a few years ago. Cousin was in his 60's & a lifelong user of Copenhagen & also chewed on cigars. Got cancer on his tongue & got that removed. Six months later they removed part of his jaw where it had spread. Another 6 months went by & he was gone.... had spread to his brain.

Give quitting a shot OP!! Your family & friends want you around as long as possible.

So here's the dirty little secret the nicotine replacement folks won't tell you.

Your body kicks nicotine in 3 days. Any patch, gum, pouch, or vape just prolongs the addiction. The cravings are WAY on the downhill slide by day 4. If you wipe out your lip right now you'll be nicotine free by tomorrow and the physical withdrawl symptoms would be over by Sunday afternoon.

Dang, that's crazy. Just shows it's all psychological. To be honest though I'm sure the cravings won't stop. It's really changing the habit. I am by no means a regular dipper, but for whatever reason I get the craving when driving long distances or playing poker. It's not even the nicotine I crave.

This 100%. I quit for a year and the cravings never stopped. Had nothing to do with the nicotine and everything to do with the habit. Spitting is therapeutic.

All the rolls I've bought have been fresh. On the quit or not quit stuff everybody has a choice. Me I'm going to keep dipping because I like to not because I don't think I can kick off the nicotine. That's my choice. Fully support all the folks that have quit. I move my dips around never dip in the same spot over & over. Also after every dip, I floss, Listerine and brush. I also have my dentist twice a year do the UV light screening on top of having 3 cleanings done a year. So very pro active on that. Will all that stuff pay off only time will tell. I know the risks. I could get hit by a bus tomorrow so I going to enjoy the things I like while I'm here on this earth.

This. I quit for 2 years and the cravings never stopped. Had one too many stressful days at work and bummed a dip off a coworker and was right back to a can a day.

It's not the nicotine or the tobacco I need. It's the taste and chewing on it that I crave. If anybody ever came up with a copenhagen longcut flavored substitute I would absolutely use that. I've tried the orginal flavored smoky mountain stuff and immediately started gagging. That stuff was worse than longhorn snuff.

As far as the quality of Copenhagen, I haven't noticed a difference. My can right now is sell by Nov 20. Maybe being in a small town the quality has always sucked so I don't know any better.

As a 15 yr plus Copenhagen user, about to finish his third without, the turn this thread took makes me happy.

Sorry OP, I know this wasn't quite how you hoped would go. Maybe it is a sign.

Been there for sure. Remember however it was you quit the first time. It took me 3(?) times with 1-2 year layoffs and it finally seems to have stuck this time around after three years. Totally worth it.

I quit dip & chewing tobacco years ago. Two friends didn't quit dipping.

One made it to 60 before the oral cancer killed him.

The other, formerly a big strong man, looks like a scarecrow from h3ll from the oral cancer.

Food for thought.

Got food poisoning in an airport on my way out of town for the week. Was so sick I didn't want Copenhagen. Easy way to quit but I wouldn't wish it on most of y'all. That was late October 2018.

I use coffee pouches for long drives. I've really enjoyed them. There are lots of flavors to choose from.

I'm going to give quitting one last chance. I'm trying non-tobacco substitute until my system is clean and then it will be battling the mental aspect of the habit from using chewing tobacco and snuff since I was 13. It's not easy quitting something you've done for 50+ years. Over that period, I've averaged between 1-2 cans of Copenhagen per day before switching to Red Seal.

You should quit before they have to remove part or all of your jaw.

Virtually zero. It doubles your chance of oral cancer, but the chances naturally of oral cancer is less than 0.5%

Dipped Copenhagen for 20 years. Decided to quit and took my last dip at 11:30 PM on Dec. 31, 2000. Spit it out and wished my wife a happy new year. Haven't had a dip since. Still have dreams of dipping though. If you see me with a dip in my mouth, you'll know I've got some terminal illness.

IMO, when trying to quit, that makes as much sense as telling someone, instead of ice cream, eat cake, when trying to lose weight.

This.

I started not dipping 10 years ago now. Don't regret that decision one single bit.

Don't look at it as quitting. Quitting, by definition, has negative connotations in our world - we are taught from a very young age that quitters are bad, etc.

This is going to sound silly, but it absolutely makes a huge difference - or did with me - mentally on your approach. Don't use the term "quitting". Instead use the term "start not dipping". Seriously, when you change your mentality from quitting to starting not doing something it puts a different focus on the activity and overall has a far more positive mental aspect to it.

Spit out my last dip and chucked the can as I was getting on the Freedom Bird, coming home from Afghanistan May 30, 2010.

Popped an ambien to start the 18+ hour flight ordeal to get back to Colorado Springs. By the time I was through the travel nutroll, and sorted out from the jet lag, the physical addiction was gone.

The smell still gets me when I'm around it, but have managed to stay nicotine free apart from the (very) occasional cigar.

Coffee has filled the vacuum.

And bourbon...which might not be better.

i tried kicking that habit once and was successful for a month and fell back into over a holiday weekend. but withdrawals lasted quite a bit longer than a few days for me.
