Getting a Boykin Spaniel in a few weeks and need some suggestions on boy names. Was thinking Gus after one of my favorite book characters Augustus McCrae. Also maybe something more popular like Remi (Remington). Or Aggie related like Sarge.

Appreciate the help.

A good dog name (or human nickname) is
A. Not a normal human name
B. Distinctive
C. Circuitously connected
D. An inside joke / non-obvious

So, if they're called Boykins because of Whit Boykin: take a synonym of "Whit" that you like as a name.

We have a theme and only get labs. So we did the traditional Ruger and Remington. Next one I wanted a different gun name so we have derringer aka Derrin. Derrin gets a lot of turned heads and questions about his name. I love real names for dogs. His sister is Kimber but girl gun dog names are tougher. Human names for labs crack me up if done right

A friend of mine has two bloodhound mixes that he rescued. One named Norman, and one named Robert. It fits the dogs perfectly and cracks me everytime.

Before I picked up Beretta, I was really looking for a Boykin. I had already picked the names previously... if it was a female... it would be Beretta. For a male, I was going to go with Remington and use the same nickname that you picked with Remi. Good choice.

I like people names for my dogs well, especially when they're a little odd

Gilbert (may God rest his soul), and Chester (current) are my most recent two.

If I ever get a female I think I'd go with Gertrude (Trudy) or Edith
