Purchased a new Bergara B-14 Hunter series .308. Need a scope recommendation to pair with it. I hunt frequently in the woods of east Texas where I typically shoot 50-75 yards but would like something I could reach out to 300 yards. Looking to spend $800 or less. Thanks in advance

I think any reputable 3-9x would fit the bill here. Fixed 4x or LPVO would also be worth considering.

When I hunted Cass county it was with a red dot, 1-3x or iron sights. None of those really fit your rifle.

Rudolph 5-25 ffp. Regular price is 750. I do then for texags for 675

Get a 1-8x LPVO.

50-75 with a 5x minimum might be too much.

I have been looking at this. Carter's country in Houston has it for $449 and you get a mounting bracket with it

I dont know jack about hunting east Texas and have no recs.

But blue star for the rarely seen well written question. Use case, intended ranges, and budget. Most "what should I buy" questions posted are lacking at least 2 of those important parameters.

One thing with an LPVO, those have a very small objective. Hunting in the woods at dawn and dusk would not be as good as something with a bigger bell. Low power won't be an issue, but at 8x, the exit pupil on most of the LPVOs is a little bigger than 3mm... the majority of people out there will see brighter images with a bigger objective.

And I keep forgetting about this guy:

I can get it at $800. I run the 4-20x version on several guns and I love it.

Leupold VX3-HD 3.5-10x40 would be good for that rig.

This is what you need. I would bump up to the 3.5-10x50 if you can afford it. Leupold makes a good, tough scope that can take a hit and not lose its zero.

I've got a new Steiner GS3 2-10x42 with a #4 reticle and a gently used Leupold Vx3i 3.5-10 w/ windplex reticle sitting on my shelf I need to put up for sale if either of those interest you.

I honestly think a Leupold VX 5 2-10 is perfect for your use case but is about $150 outside your price range

Trijicon Accupoint 3-9x40 (lighter) or 2.5-10x56 (brighter). You might able to find a 2.5-12x42 (versatile) around $800.

Great point.

I'm curious though - is anybody working on low magnification (6-8x) LPVO scopes with larger objectives?

Following closely. I also just purchased a Bergara .308. But I'll be using it in the mountains, so expect most shots to be longer.

Is the Rudolph warranty as good as Vortex?

Im sort of in the same boat since my 8.6 pistol is just about finished. Im only using for hunting and I hate just about all the reticles offered in the LPVO. The Rudolph 1x6 seems to be the only reticle I like since its simple and Im not using it to play operator on the weekends. Ive flip-flopped several times so Ill just do nothing for now. Its only going to be for day use since I use a thermal at night. Good luck OP.
