Just got back into fishing after about 2 decades of not picking up a rod and reel much. Living in Houston now and wondering where the local spots are for bass, not opposed to recs for other types of fish. I've done some research, seems like Tom Bass, Buffalo Run, Sheldon, Anahuac, and Katy are the places to go for fishing from the bank around here.

Anybody willing to share their favorite places to enjoy some fishing?

Sheldon is very limited bank fishing
Best bet are neighborhood and golf course ponds

By FAR the best bass fishing I have done in the Houston are from banks was working bayous and drainage ditches that hold water, and neighborhood ponds and gold course ponds.

North katy at John Paul Landing Park is all bank/dock fishing for cats, perch and bass. Very nice place to fish. Signs say they also have crappie and striped bass but i aint caught any of them there yet.

Google maps to find any retention ponds in your area. A lot of the precinct parks will have ponds as well.

Lived in a "lakes" neighborhood until a year ago may 2021. When I lost my job in May 2020 and COVID hit I started fishing the lakes. Caught some decent bass at first but but then lots of other folks started and the catch rate fell to nothing. It was hot by then, though. No motorized boats (well, electric motors were allowed) were allowed. I know some people from outside the subdivision were fishing there, too. Then at some point at the end of summer 2020 they put up signs sayi9ng only residents could fish. I have since moved because we had to sell the house. Back when I started fishing there I'd go to Bass Pro Shops and they'd be sold out of most reels, hooks and certain lures. Weird.
I would love to find a place to bank fish. When I was in B/CS I'd go to Lake Sommerville and wade fish. I don't know if that still can be done effectively, now. We have looked at fishing clubs but they are expensive and not so close to home.

Spring Creek off Riley Fuzzel road has bass in the deeper pools.

Oxbow called Bender lake right I that area that has some bass in it. Lake back up in the woods. Look for the cypress trees.

Keep eye out for gators in that area.

Bank fishing at Sheldon is very limited FYI.

And there's also an exceedingly large population of big gators there.

Thank yall. Went out to Tom Bass lake and had a great morning of fishing, the catching was terrible though.

If in Tomball you go to the end of Ulrich then through the woods/brush to spring creek you'll find good bass spots. Be sure to wear long pants and good boots.
I feel so much better since about 11 a.m. CT on 20 Jan. 2025

Before we got married and moved to the burbs, my wife and I used to spend hours fishing buffalo bayou. Seriously, you never know what you will reel in. Huge gator gar, plenty of blue cat and once I landed a huge alligator snapping turtle. We both agree our best times in Houston were spent on buffalo bayou.

I'm not sure, not a ton of structure. It does have deep, clear water though. Stock reports says they pour a lot of trout and catfish into it. I've no clue how catch trout.

Been watching Youtube videos of people fishing in the bayou. Carp, gar, drums, catfish, tilapia, white bass, black bass, a hodgepodge for sure.
