Ask the Agronomist (TM) says…..

The Roundup brush killer is a good choice. It has both a good grass killer (glyphosate) and a broadleaf killer (triclopyr) that enhances the glyphosate's ability on broadleaf weeds/brush. Double check on soil activity when it comes to triclopyr - it may impact grass seed germination for a short time.

I think Grazon is actually an herbicide...
Indeed. I like it for all the GD woody plants that come up on my fence lines out here in the desert. I don't even know what they are but they got thorns and suck something awful. They will die with it and thats great!

A friend of the family has a flying service ..

He gave me a mixture for spraying brush on fence lines that kills everything

Remedy
Sendero
2;4 D Herbicide
Roundup ( if you want to get the grass and weeds )

We mix up 1000 gallons ( in water ) w a surfactant and blue dye in a sprayer and it kills pretty much everything it touches .. don't remember the amount of each

There's going to have to be an emulsifier in there somewhere with the oil soluble and water soluble combo, but that should smoke about anything.

Yeah I forget the emulsifier name but we definitely used one esp w the remedy which is not water solvable .. it's been a few years, it worked so good our fence line has been clear for at least 3 years .. smokes everything including some big mesquites across the fence

Kill it til we get a new president? SK-26 granules
You've got my attention.

I get about 9 months of residual 'bare ground' activity from Imazapyr (e.g. - Arsenal / Polaris / RM-43 / etc), although it's been better this year due to lack of rainfall.

So, would SK-26 really double or triple that residual effect time? If so, I may switch to it.

FWIW, I've never used SK-26 before, which looks to be a mix of Tebuthiuron and Diuron.

Yeah, teb is quite potent; just ask any Auburn fan. If theres any surrounding trees, shrubs, etc., with roots in the treated area, it's gonna be bad for them. But if thats no issue and barren soil is your desire, sk-26 is the way to go. It does leach, and will move down a slope, so be careful.

I am interested in a chemical that kills all types of brush that comes back out of the ground from roots that we previously cut down on our hill country ranch to include sage brush, agarito, and persimmon. I would use a pump up hand sprayer.

Play a recording of Fran Drescher laughing on a loop for about an hour.

It will kill anything.

Vapam. We used to treat our greenhouses to kill root knot nematodes that attacked our basil. Nasty stuff.

Both strontium 90 and cesium 137 work for the prolonged kill, but I have a soft spot for polonium 210.

Get rid of the Roundup, and you'll be spraying those fence lines less frequently. A healthy stand of grass is the best and cheapest brush inhibitor that exists. Brush shows up because the soil becomes bare, which allows sunlight in and causes brush to sprout. With a good grass cover, the soil doesn't warm up fast enough for the brush to stand a chance at surviving germination.

Can I use this on English Ivy? I've been waging war with that **** for 16 years.

Im with you on this, we usually dont use roundup, but we have a high fence and wanted to be able to see the bottom of the fence when hogs tear it up... we usually dont put round up in the mix for our regular cow fences, dont want to kill our coastal grass !
