Here's the thing about magnet fishing.....

I see videos of dudes doing this and finding guns that have been tossed over bridges etc in lakes/rivers and so on.

How would you feel if you you had to toss a throwdown gun after doing a piece of work and some kid with a magnet lands you in court? I for one would not appreciate it!!

I have already scoped multiple low water crossings and bridges that look safe to do it. Get off the beaten track. If I find junk then I will take and dispose of it.

It I find a mortar or a gun I will promptly come here. lol

I have a pretty strong (400lbs I think) magnet that I use for my shop, have been thinking about giving it a try. Plenty of bridges around here to give it a go over creeks, bayous, etc. Who knows what you would find.

There is a section of Buffalo Bayou in Houston that hasn't been developed/modified on the slopes - that's because right after the WONA, the Confederate arsenal dumped all of their weapons, cannonballs, etc. there to keep the Union troops from having access to them. Over the years people have pulled some out here and there. Have always wanted to give that area a try just to see if I got lucky with an old musket or something. But knowing my luck, I'd pull up an explosive cannonball or mine or something and be up a creek.

I got the 1,000 pound magnet. Watching the videos and unless it attaches to a solid piece of metal it comes up easily. Plus does not mean something that weight will even make it to the surface. If it breaks or gets stuck. Oh well. These things are pretty cheap. 42 bucks for a magnet with gloves, rope.

Hit some of the falls/drop offs on the Frio. Are the tiny screws in sunglasses enough for it to "grab"?
Being in TexAgs jail changes a man……..no, not really

Look up on YouTube where they cut off the top of a two liter bottle and put it on the line to reduce snags.

You can also get your magnet stuck to a giant section of pipe and have a hell of a time getting it back.

I once tried this after I had dropped a knife with sentimental value off an area near Texas city dike. 2 hours, found some rusted junk, never found the knife.

Probably not but I have done metal detecting and it has mainly been just old junk. At least with a magnet I can say I am cleaning the creeks. Lol.

Make a day out of it. Dick around, eat lunch, dick around some more.

I have not had this much time on my hands in a while.

Bought a pretty powerful magnet for magnet fishing a couple of years ago. Never used it for that. But drop something metallic in the grass and it will yank it right up! Also have used it when finishing some project to gather up nails, screws, etc.
