How long do you want to ignore this user?
So I lost my pair that I had for 6 years a couple months back. They were my go to for just wearing around but obviously were great for fishing and just general outdoor use. I ordered the same model last week and just got them in the mail. Am I missing something? I know they sold a few years back but they feel super super flimsy, the plastic feels extra cheap and not reliable. Did the company that bought them change some stuff? I am sending them back. Can anyone recommend a good brand?

Maui Jim or Smith. Used to wear nothing but Costa but the quality and service isn't what it used to be.

Big fan of Bajio here. I heard it was the old Costa folks but no clue if that's true.

I've been on a Pepper kick for the last few years. You can get em at Academy for 20-40 bucks if any of you are looking for some throw down pairs.

Ditto. I sent a pair of Costas in for repair and by the time you get a quote they already have your glasses. After shipping, the total was within $25 or so of what a new pair would have cost. I was pissed off to the point I bought MJs the next time I needed glasses and then I discovered MJs were straight up better anyway. My favorites for fishing are my Local Kine with Maui Green (grey tint) and my favorite all around are my Equators with Hawaii Lava (amber tint)

I have a pair of Kaenon's on my head right now and have been really impressed with them. I've never heard of them or seen them anywhere, but I won a pair at a sporting clays tournament a few years ago.

I did prefer my older Costa's, but they broke last year.

I picked up some new sunglasses a year or so ago after my Ray Bans went missing. I was introduced to a brand I had never heard of, Zeal Optics. They are owned by Maui Jim and are supposed to be their more affordable line. I really like them and they have treated me well anywhere I have worn them thus far. They are comparable to the Oakleys and Ray Bans I have owned in the past.

I recommend Smith. Similar frame styles as costa with better glass in my opinion.

I've worn corrective lenses since I was 12 years old. RX sunglasses as well. I typically keep a pair of glasses for upwards of 7-8 years. I'm very very easy on glasses. I keep them in fabulous shape, protect them and have never had a pair of clear lens glasses break on me. Ever.

I've now had two pair of Costa RX Sunglasses and both deteriorated and broke inside of 8 months of ownership. I lost the rubber stripping on the arms, the coating on the frame chipped and broke away and both pair eventually had an arm break off at the joint.

I won't be buying another pair.

Had Maui Jim glasses and the lens cracked while bouncing around in their protective case in my truck. Only had them like 3-4 months. MJ wouldn't do anything to fix them or help me out on costs. Still sitting in the drawer broken.

Won't own another one of them.

Costas has repaired everything I've ever sent under warranty or at minimal cost including free upgrades.

So take ever recommendation with a grain of salt.

I went looking for a new pair and every brand I tried (MJ, Native, Oakley, Costas etc) all have a cheap flex to the plastic frames. It's just the new way of doing things.

that sucks about the build quality. I'll need a new pair soon and like a solid feel. currently have a pair of costa straits that have served me well for years but they are wearing out. I can't seem to find anything similar to them, though. :/

If I worked at MJ, I wouldn't have believed that bs story either

I got mine at Gordy's in Houston, but I think their website has a store locator as well. Haven't had any issues with mine and they beat my MJs for clarity imo.

Well truth hurts. Checking fields in the summer and driving over some irrigation ditches. Everything in the cab got slammed around and it was the casualty. I'm sure my bag landed on top of them.

Still their reply was to send me the web link for a new pair.

Left my Costa's on the back of my truck and they bounced off. Costas charged me $50 for new 580G lens replacement. So that is my comparison.

Sounds like you would have better luck with your sunglasses if you wore them instead of having them loose in your truck.

Well I do the best I can when I spend 7-8 hrs a day in my truck 5 months out of the year. I've had 4 pairs of Costas in the last 12 years. 2 blue and 2 green. Only paid full price for 2 of those.

Costa denied my last 2 online submittal for repair or replacement. All I got was a weak discount code.

I can get 40-60 % off on government sites. Just don't have all the options and got to watch weekly.

If you are claiming to be 10 of 10 on glasses I am probably 7-8 of 10. I have two pair of costas that are less than 3 years old an have had zero issues outside of the small scratch in one glass lens. My plastic lenses are still perfect. Outside of that I have had zero wear issues in plastic or rubber on either pair.

Just for reference.

I feel like there are wild claims both ways for all brands of glasses. If everyone would just go ahead and state their brand loyalty then leave the subjectivity out of it that would help.

I used to wear nothing but Maui Jim but I was too hard on them never tried the warranty because all the damage was caused by something I did. I switched to costs because they wrap around my eyes better and have more selection on frame width as I have a very large head. I have had Costa replace a couple pair of glasses but it was all things I did and sent in for warranty just to see what would happen and they were replaced. I have some parts falling off my current ones but I have wore them everyday for 3 years probably standard wear and tear.

I've always had MJ's but hated when they got scratched and after a few years with a few scratches, I would just replace the lenses. But now I have given up on that and found a decent pair of polarized sunglasses on Amazon.

Merry's sunglasses are pretty dang good. All for $12! I usually buy 2-3 at a time. When they get scratched, I pitch them. (Or they get down graded to lawn mowing glasses) Or save the good lenses. Only issue is that they don't hold up in swimming pools with chlorine. I've got another pair of junkers for that! I'm over high priced sunglasses.

I have one pair of Maui Jim that is about 13 years old and still going strong. My other pair is around 5 years. Absolutely love them.

Yes, a lot of former senior Costa executives started Bajio.

I hear Shady Rays advertised on the radio, and after dealing with scratched Oakley lenses, I'm interested in trying them. Anyone got experience with them?

Service was great last summer. I broke a pair, put in claim. They sent the wrong pair. I called they told me to keep the wrong pair and sent the correct pair.

Ive got a pair. They are ok. Very limited in frame options. Cost is good. Customer service good. Salt spray destroyed the lenses on my original pair and I got a replacement pair no questions asked.

They are junk but their warranty is good. Frames peel and leave plastic all over your face. Inside of lens scratches super easy. If you get reflective coating, it peels off too. That said, they have sent me 3 pair of replacements when the first ones fell apart.
