Ribosomal plants are the Borg of the plant world.

Que? To the best of my knowledge, all plants have ribosomes. And who is Borg?

I was under the impression ribosomal plants are the ones that grow underground and shoot up far away from where they started. I mean to use the work for that. Blackberries. Cattails.

The Borg is the AI race from Star Trek that takes over all other life and can adapt and you can't kill it. Like blackberries.

I would be interested in buying a handful of rosborough root cuts if anyone has any. Wolmack is sold out

When I bought my last little 30 acre parcel in 2020, it had about 8 acres of solid blackberries, as tall as my tractor. I was going to just cut rows in it but it was a haven for snakes and I lost a calf due to rattlesnake bite so I shredded the entire 8 acres and then sprayed last summer. No more blackberries except a few still on the fenceline.

I Have memories sitting in a hot bathtub getting the thorns out of my hands. We would pick on DFW property. Probably had jetfuel on them but great cobbler

Rhizome

I believe the word you're looking for is rhizomatous. Blackberries & dewberries aren't hard to control. I can kill them graveyard dead with relative ease.

I planted 5-6 large thornless blackberry plants 3-4 years ago in the garden. Added a couple more in the past 2 years. Had 2 rows of plants. 3 of the larger ones died this year... but I have 1-2' tall plants grow up since it warmed up... so, I have about 20 extra plants that I've transplanted into 2 new rows and given some to friends. Dug up the entire root ball and didn't disturb the root at all.

Geez, I'm going to have blackberries out the wazoo.

Don't recall the exact species, I want to say the name had "Liberty" in it, but mine are doing well. Still learning how to prune and manage in the off-season, but it's been a fun project.

Got lots of wild dewberries along my fence lines on my place. Can't wait until they are ready. Warm cobbler and ice cream time!

Man, I remember as a kid, Dad had trotlines out at Lake Texoma, Come the right time of the year, whole family would go out for a weekend. The bar ditches on the backroads we took getting there were full of berries. Pick buckets full for jam and cobblers, eat so many it made your stomach hurt. Purple fingers for days. Awesome times. Plus the catfish!

This is one of the more country paragraphs I've read in while. Should turn it into a song for us!
But he didn't write anything about mama, or trains, or trucks, or prison, or gettin' drunk.
to be fair, he didn't say it was the greatest country paragraph...

Dewberries are coming in pretty good in south Lee County.

Finished off the first pie last night.

I am friends with an Ag Extension Horticulture advisor who has been collecting data on blackberries grown at a PYO in Brazoria County-Froberg Farms.

A new University of Arkansas release " Caddo" came out on top for fruit quality & disease resistance.
May want to give it a try.

I've grown Kiowa. Large fruit, very thorny plants.

You inspired me and I bought 3 caddos.

Surmount, Escort, Chaparral/Opensight, Grazon P+D, Tordon 22K. Lots of options available. Spray after blooming. Use a good surfactant. Easy peasy.

Dewberry/blackberries are not easily controlled with 2,4-D. As mentioned, products with metsulfuron or triclpopyr are recommended.

Picloram as well, as long as you're not in trees you want to keep.

And the dewberry cobbler today was delicious.

Well all I know is I shredded 8 acres of them, and then when they started coming back, I sprayed them with Pasture Pro and almost nothing came back after that.
