Headed down to El Campo...Any recommendations on good BBQ?

I'm loyal to Mikeska's but it's been awhile.

"The BBQ Place" is easily my favorite. Right by the Post Office.

Open Tuesday-Thursday right now.

He's always got something on the smoker in addition to his typical bbq offerings.

Mikeska's is basically in business for catering and uninformed Hwy59 traffic.

Praseks is a great stop for everything, but the BBQ is average. Jerky and kolaches are top notch.

It's been several years, but my company had a relief valve test facility there. Several times per year we put on a three day customer seminar which included a tour and demonstrations at the test facility. We always stopped at Mikeskas because they could accommodate a bus load of people. I always thought of all the good BBQ in Texas, we are taking out of state and foreigners there for their perhaps on time exposure to Texas BBQ.

Don't want to start a fight. Their banana pudding was excellent.

The BBQ place is the only correct choice in El Campo, Mustang Creek is also good if you head south of Hilje. Mustang Creek also is only open a few days a week. If other food options are wanted, Jalapeños, Feed Store, or the seafood restaurant next to BBQ place are about the only decent options anymore.

Important note on The BBQ Place.

Since they are only open for lunch they will run out on busy days. If you go before 12-12:30 you should be able to get everything including whatever special he has for the day. His smoked cheeseburgers and fish tend to go real fast.

I typically go to mikeskas. It's not the best, but it's what I grew up eating and has that familiar taste.

Mustang creek is much better, especially their chop beef sandwich.

I got a baked potato from pit viper and it was underwhelming.

Never had the bbq place.

Will probably go to mikeskas for lunch today

I'm not the one that went to church.

I forgot about La Prieferida, it's been years since I've been but it's good. The taco stand in Garwood or Azteca in Eagle Lake are the reigning champs for tacos in my opinion though.

Lone Star in Taiton is a worthy option too.

Ol faithful. $3 beef, $2 sausage, green beans, pudding, and onions to dip in sauce.

Also this cat has lived here for 15 years apparently. The owner said that the took it out to danevang and it made it all the way back.

Also, mikeskas uses tri tip, not brisket

Learned today when I went in that the neighboring restaurant (which I don't know anyone who has eaten there) bought up all the buildings around there to open a bakery.

So the new owners are forcing BBQ Place to close at the end of the month. No idea if they will relocate.

So pissed.

Wouldn't surprise me if he hangs it up, I think it was a hobby for him as much as anything. I hope it keeps it going though, one of the few decent options in El Campo. Terrible options compared to any other town around there.
