USPSA - PCC

It's been several years since I've shot USPSA, but after shooting my Limited G34 last weekend at the USPSA match in Austin and seeing a big shift to PCC, I've decided to scratch a new itch and try my hand at PCC. I'm looking for input on what are some of the must have items?

I'm setup with a belt and mag holders, and I'll be assembling an Aero Precision EPC over the weekend. I need a sight, so I'm leaning towards Holosun 510C because it has nice features and won't break the bank. Are there any other sights in the $300 range that I should give consideration to? Regarding Glock mag base pads, a lot of guys this past weekend were running Taylor Freelance or Taran Tactical base pads, but after researching a little, it looks like TF can have feed issues due to some ammo having a slightly longer OAL. For right now, I haven't seen any issues with Taran Tactical +10, so I'm leaning towards TTI base pads. Anything else that I'm missing to get started? TIA

Can't go wrong with the 510C. I personally run an MRO because I got a great deal on it several years ago when I started full steam in PCC, but the 510C would be what I would buy if I was starting over.

I have a few extensions, depending on what I'm using the PCC for. For Multigun where you have stages longer than an average USPSA stage, I have an MBX Mega that gets me 57 in the tube. Then I have an MBX Mini that I run as my main mag for USPSA, 47 in the tube. Then my backup mags, I have 1 with a standard +5 TTI extension, and one that's stock Glock big stick. I want to add a TTI +10 to the collection next.

I had the same issue with Taylor Freelance - the 9mm I run from my ammo sponsor is too long for their extensions.

Other things -

  • Get a good case for it for between stages
  • Have a chamber flag that has something hanging off of it, making it harder to forget to remove it on an unloaded stage start - ask me how I know...
  • If you don't already have one, a Maglula loader

Most PCC guys I see have a canted/offset sight zeroed for a different distance. I think that's mostly due to height over bore being a much bigger consideration. Like rally-cap mentioned, I'd probably spring for the MBX mags. I'd also probably consider one of the short stroke buffer systems out there.

More often, it's zeroed at the same distance, it just makes it easier to lean around walls and keep a sight picture rather than trying to get to your main optic. USPSA doesn't have enough range difference to really need a second distance zeroed optic.

And yes, I always recommend everything IN the gun that moves to be JP - bolt, and buffer at a minimum. They are at the top of the list.

Some but not all from the guys I have talked to, but I'll defer to you on this since I don't shoot PCC.

Spendy but worth it.

Are ETS Glock magazines GTG or am I better spending the money on factory Glock magazines?

Those MBX extensions look good, and work with ETS and Glock so I'll probably give them a shot. About the same price as TTI, but get a few more rounds.

I have ETS mags, and have never used them in a match. They either don't drop free, or don't feed. IMO, no reason to not use Glock OEM.

Those MBX extensions look cool, but they are disposable if you drop them. The crappy plastic Glock uses on their magazine bodies will pull out, destroying your mag body and launching your mag spring and follower. At best you are only out a mag tube, but more than likely you'll be out another $20 for the spring, and another $5 for the follower, plus no telling how much ammo if there is any left in the mag.

They have upgraded the design to help address that issue. The gen 1 version was known to come off if you dropped the mag fully loaded or dumped the rifle hard into a barrel. The gen 2 version has additional aluminum above the connection point to the Glock mag to give it more secure purchase on the mag body, not just the edges of the opening at the bottom of the mag.

Gen 1 on the left, gen 2 on the right -

It's probably still not as strong as the Taylor Freelance Goliath, but for reasons already pointed out, I can't run that extension.

I've never had good luck with ETS mags. Would not use.

I have a couple ets mags, use them for snap cap storage. Would not feed reliably in any of glock compatible firearms. Would not ever buy them again.

Finally put together my Aero EPC and this might be my new favorite gun! It's all Aero except for the trigger, which is CMC, and the brake. If you don't have one, I highly recommend putting one together. It's topped with a Holosun 510c. Can't wait to shoot it at a USPSA match.

Looks like a solid build! Shot my build today, and you're right, it's my favorite gun, hands down. Easily have 15k through mine over the last 3 years.
