Saturday night through Sunday afternoon was the polar opposite. Called in a group of hens and then a longbeard - shot through some junk that I should been to get through so don't know if I just cleaned missed or the junk interfered - it was hole through some cedar

Called in a boss gobbler in the morning session to 12 yards who caught me with my gun down. By the time I eased it up he sensed something was wrong and just faded out of my view and worked his way up the hill.

Called in another group around 10:30 - gobbling st my every call - when the bird appeared I shot and promptly found a Jake flopping

Driving around ranch I heard a gobble from my truck, bailed out and had 4 long beards come in - hadn't racked a shell in my semi auto and heard a click when I pulled the trigger, then choked trying to rack a shell while the birds were running off. Could have killed 3 longbeards in less than 20 hours and ended up with Jake. Incredible hunting but pulled every rookie mistake in the book. Going back to my simple 870 express until I get proficient through practice with the semi auto.

Weather conditions were all most identical on Sunday - birds deathly silent on Sat and gobbling at anything I threw at them on Sunday. One of mystery's of Turkey hunting.

Anyone else hunting south zone opening day? Got the bow out and got set up in a pop up at 0630 this morning a couple hundred yards from the roost this morning and man were they lighting it up with some spring thunder. About 830 they roll around but are about 100 yards off going south. Couldn't call them in but they were still in big groups. After the action settled made a move to a diff area and crept in to about 100 yards of another group. The way they were setup that's as close as I could get without spooking them off. Couldn't get anyone to really respond to the calls yet. But dang that was a fun morning. Unfortunately back to town for a wedding tonight. Going to try and be out again in April.
after this season is done, I would like to hear some recommendations for some south zone semi guided hunts - i hate losing two weeks of the total available season in Texas with the reclassification of Kimble as a north zone county

Hunted north zone opening day in Hamilton County. Couldn't find them Friday night, and heard one gobble early Saturday. Didn't hear anything else all morning.

Saturday afternoon they started talking, but the toms were focused on gathering the hens - not interested in coming to me at all. They ended up roosting on the neighboring property, and I couldn't get away again Sunday.

It seemed they weren't quite ready to breed yet. What are others in that general area seeing?
