Anyone on the OB ever rack-rafted the Devil's River or other in Texas? I'd like to take the new Alaska hunting packraft for a maiden voyage to include at least one night camping.

Thanks.

I think I'd shake a new boat down on something less remote. Upper Brazos on a PK rise?

I do two days on the Navasota every February in my kayak with a big group mostly in canoes. Don't do that with a pack raft.

I did a two day on the Devils about 10 years ago. Also in a canoe. It was awesome.

Why not with a packraft?

Did you put in at Bakers's crossing? Where did you take out? Also, in what month?

Boquillas Canyon is a good trip. 3 to 4 days from Boquillas/Rio Grande Village down to La Linda.

Do the lower pecos from pandale to amistad if you want to almost die.

Better yet, call ol' what's his name that guides on the devils. The guy who won't give your deposit back after cancelling the trip.

For a short trip look at something like the frio, nueces, guadalupe and camp on a sandbar.

I've done the Brazos below PK multiple times in a kayak. It's a great trip in October or November

Not sure but I think so.

Also not 100% sure but I know we got out soon after the river opened up as we got close to Amistad.

I want to say September. It was pretty damn hot at times but still very enjoyable. We also did a day trip in May a couple years prior to that. Weather was nicer then.

Bunch of places where the river and the tree canopy are the same thing at pretty much any water level. You come to a dead stop in swift water just to pull the kayak and yourself through the woods below/above/in front of you. It's even more a challenge in a canoe because of the additional height and width. I suppose you could portage a whole bunch but a lot of it is real steep muddy bank and would require a significant upstream backtrack.

But it's a beautiful stretch of water from 30 to 6, believe it or not.
