Best Weather App?

I have always used Weather Underground in the past but it has become useless. I loved that I could find someone's local Weather station and see what actual current conditions were on the ground before heading out to hunt. It also used to have Weather cams which I really liked.

Now it seems that "current conditions" on most sites are just based on the predictions and not actually measured.

Found this out the hard way when I loaded up to go duck hunting yesterday morning. All sites indicated 10mph wind. Arrived to the lake at 5AM to find 20+ and had to abort mission.

Is there still anything out there that will give actual local conditions on a micro level?

This is a prime example of when theory and practice diverge...

+1 on Dark Sky

Found out about it on here and happy with it.

I use "WeatherBug" mainly for its ability to determine the distance of lightning strikes, and then I use "MyRadar" for viewing the weather radar.

WeatherBug. I searched and searched for an app with a good hourly forecast that was simple and easy to read that also had wind speed and direction clearly displayed. WeatherBug is the only one I've found

Unfortunately you aren't getting real measured data. Probably close enough not to matter in most cases but if you're ever in a situation where accuracy really matters for safety, etc DO NOT put any stock in that data.

I'm going to try WeatherBug based on recommendations here as it looks like DarkSky is on it's way out.

Am i the only one who uses weather+

There is an ad that pops up immediately after opening, but I feel like it is the best option out there

Ventusky - we use it for offshore fishing and it's damn near spot on on predictions.

Is WeatherBug no longer a huge spyware app?

Download the NOAA app. Gives you the lightening strike info and acts as an emergency weather radio.

EDIT- just searched up WeatherBug and the free version is full of Adware.

Personal individual weather stations are never reliable for judging wind. Very difficult to site backyard weather stations and get good wind measurements.

Looks like Apple bought dark sky -- hopefully they will re-package what dark sky does into their own native weather app

Based on the article looks like thats the expectation. I hope its similar, I've used dark sky for years

Try Dark Sky and MyRadar (for live radar).

I'm sick of those morons. Between the ever growing assortment of ads I have to wade thorugh, the social justice non-weather realated stories that clutter my feed, and the abysmal forecasting, I'm sick them. I swear they stick their head out the window and change the rest of the day's forecast based on what's happening. I've had multiple examples of checking the weather in the morning and they say it's not going to rain and by noon they're showing 70% chance of afternoon showers.

Additionally, no matter how many times I update their app, and keep my phone updated (Galaxy S20+) their app refuses to "follow me" even though it's set to do so.

That's the combo I use.
Dark Sky radar is fairly useless. But I also wonder if MyRadar exaggerates the radar imagery to make things look more "interesting"

I really like a WeatherNerd. It's subscription but only a few bucks a year and has most of the features mentioned with no adds and a great interface. No weather stations though.

For Weather Underground, can you select various PWS on the app or is that only available on the website?

I can find the option on the website but no the app.

I use an app called Storm Radar. Seems it is owned by TWC but works well for me.

I use one called Windy that seems pretty accurate. It's mainly a wind forecaster (duh).

On the app go into the map and zoom in. Most of the temp readings are PWSs you can select and then favorite.

Appreciate the help.

I use both Weather Underground and WeatherBug. For some reason, WU has had the wind directions reversed the past couple months.

I use "NOAA Weather Unofficial (pro)" by Granite apps on Android.

Not even sure if this app is still in the app store or not but it's been on my phone for years and still works great. I was at a CEU fire class years ago and one of the instructors told us about this app. It uses data directly from the NWS site but makes it super easy to interact with. You can easily read the "forecast discussion" from NWS which is very technical but super informational too. The other benefit is the ability to see the hourly forecast for most all parameters plus the fire weather forecast. It's kind of nerdy but those are all the things I frequently would read from the NWS page so it has been my go-to app for years. Add the MyRadar app with the wind layer visible and it seems to cover most of my interests.
