Southern Catch Outfitters is top of the line offshore.

Tripletail Charters has both inshore and offshore. Capt Blake is a great dude and will put you on the fish.

Ginman is correct. I've gone summertime

Mexican gulf for offshore.

If you want big red for fun hard fight go out of the marsh into big water in the summertime. If you want lots of eaters stay in the marsh.

Stick around the marina and eat fried snapper throats drink some beers and watch what fish come in for the day. One guy gave us some swordfish steaks. Another cut us sashimi off a yellowtail.

Mexican Gulf -- Captain Dawson Wells...Get a houseboat rental...they will pick you up at the houseboat in the am.

Awesome trip. We took Dad for his 75th birthday this past June 6. Water was dead calm. Dawson's boat ran 4 - 300 hp engines at over 60 mph.

Caught limit of yellow fin tuna and a big daytime sword. Definitely a do over!

It looks like we are going to stick with inshore for reds and trout. I'm going to call of few of the outfitter recommendations. Thanks OB

Has anyone ever fished in Venice with Capt Mike Jeffcoat?

I've gone out with Gray a couple times. He works his ass off to put you on fish. I always told him I'm more in to quantity than quality. High recommend.

Your only regret will be sitting at Venice marina at the bar after inshore fishing…watching the boats come in from offshore…wishing you would've done both.
Not sure if you're familiar with the offshore waters out of Venice but deep water access and floating oil platforms are extremely close and accessible. A quick 20 mile trip down the Mississippi at WOT and another fifteen miles offshore and you're already in deep blue water. An equivalent trip out of Galveston would be over a hundred miles in open gulf waters.

I agree but a few of the guys in the group get sea sick easily and claim Dramamine doesn't work for them.

I've had rougher trips across public lakes in Texas then going offshore in LA.

Southern Catch Outfitters X10000. Our last trip with John was amazing. Check out their IG for some serious tuna and swordfish action.

I also highly recommend this houseboat in the marina:

Marcie and her family are very nice folks.

Are you allowed to fish off the house boats in Venice?

Any one ever have success doing this? We are going and im wondering if i should bring some of my own fishing gear for when we arent with a guide.

A friend of mine guides bay fishing there. Sea to Sky Outfitters. He guides goose hunts in the winter and fishing spring and summer.

I deal with just about all those outfitters due to boats. IMHO the best is Cajun Fishing Adventures. Ryan Lambert is the owner. Awesome lodge, great food and a fleet of his owns guides. Outdoor Writers Association use him every year. We have used him for our company trips and he and his staff are the best down there.

I've honestly never seen anyone fish in the marina at Venice or Cypress Cove. Plenty of locals fish on the side of the road near the water discharges…don't put your fish on a stringer in the water…~<

You can still do the offshore with those guys, just make sure you're on one of the Invincible or Freeman Cats, and problem solved imo.

John Cole is an absolute badass when it comes to offshore in Venice, and his boat is the baddest one in the whole fleet imo. I spend a lot of time each year over in Venice, and most of it is inshore sight casting at reds, but when I do go offshore, it's with him no doubt.

The boat type ain't going to keep them from getting sea sick.....

let me rephrase that for him and you then,, there is a much less likely chance of your fishing buddies getting sea sick on a cat, versus a tossing side to side, rock and roll, up and down motion of a typical V bottom hull in the gulf chop. Just like there would be less on a 92' Viking versus being out in the gulf in a 23' Whaler. Still have them take the meds, and also not stay up throwing back the cocktails all night. The boat does matter. Now some people could be out in a houseboat on Lake Travis without a ripple on the water and get motion sick, there is no help for those i agree.

I make my living in the boat business and spend hours in boats offshore and inland. There is a reason people use to refer to the " Barf Cat" in port A.
Any rolling or movement can get folks sick.
Lots of soldiers barfed their guts up on Ocean liners getting sent overseas in WWII
In typical 4-6' seas in our gulf in won't matter if you are in a cat hull or deep-v they both will roll.... if you are not used to it.. you are going to get sick. My point is the OP says he has guys that get sea sick... most likely if they go out on anything other than flat calm they more than likely will get sick no matter if they are on an oil tanker or 16' John boat.
Hell I have seen folks in flat calm seas get sick on 60 ft. Hatteras

2k+ days offshore, more than that inshore, you're not the only one that spends just a little bit of time on the water, in just about every brand and type of boat out there, but have at it. To the OP, you're gonna love Venice, there is no other fishery in the US quite like it, maybe not even close. no matter whether you spend your time inshore or offshore.

Came here to plug my guy at Sea to Sky Outfitters. He'll put you on the fish inshore and will tell you who to run offshore with anywhere from Venice to Cabo.
Side note but he guides on the best piece of land in the panhandle for Crane and geese as well if anyones looking to make a trip up here next year

Well I got just at 40 years in the industry... so with all your time on the water and resume I'll guess I probably know you or you have hit me up for a boat deal over the years like all the other pros and guides.
Yep Venice is a great fisheries.

Not a guide, only time I ran charters was during my time at TAMU, I would Captain our offshore boats on corporate charters for Pennzoil and a couple other companies every day during the summer. But I have no doubt many a friend of mine has hit you up, and i'm sure you did them right. Now saying that, who you with currently, can always use another boat, I seem to collect those like others here on the OB do guns lol

It's been a good run for me and I could never be so lucky again. Started off by racing APBA OP production class circle races. Then with Mercury Outboards and then factory rep for offshore sport fishing manufacturer and then Arkansas and Texas based fishing boat manufacturer. Met lots of great folks like you who had a true love and passion for the water and fishing. God has truly blessed me.
Tight lines in the future sir!

My two favorite outboards of all time were the Merc Racing 200xs and the 300x(those with the alien cowling) loud, obnoxious, and just flat out fast. Had a couple of each on different boats, and nothing else like em. Now i just run boring reliable ol 4 strokes on everything with an outboard, but boy were those fun.. I'm sure you have tons of knowledge on all things boating, and I hope you continue to share it here on the OB, always look forward to reading everyones takes.

Salvo's is a must stop. Some of the best seafood ever.

Capt. Anthony & Julie Randazzo at Paradise Plus Guide Service, Inc. is who I use. Great time just haven't been in 10 yrs or so.
