Very happy with both 6.5 Grendel and Creedmoor. I hem and hawed getting the CM but EyeGuy convinced me.

Grendel in AR. A couple pigs and 2 doe using the 123 SST. Pigs DRT, does both ran 50 yards with very little trail. Absolutely destroyed internally but surprisingly small exit wounds. Tack driver on the range and a blast to shoot. Absolutely plan to get more when funds available.

Bolt CM. 143 ELD-X Taken a boar at 200 and a buck so far. Buck dropped, struggled up and ran 10 yards before laying over. Rang steel at 500 with ease. So far I like the round.

I qualified at 1000yd range with an EyeGuy 6.5 CM AR build (which I'm selling btw bc I have 3 now) and I have the 6.5 CM in the Bergara HMR Wilderness which hit out at 1000yd easily as well.

It's a great round.

The Grendel is fantastic in a bolt gun. I have a Howa mini action 6.5 Grendel in a Sharps Bros Heatseeker chassis. Really fun gun and very quiet suppressed.

Just to mix things up, why not 30-06?

It cant do anything my .308 cant do, and I have not seen any ammo to speak of where I shop.

I'm really struggling with making sense of this thread. Get a Grendel, can always use more guns and it's a nice cartridge.

But…..
You don't like your 6.5CM for deer. Based on a single experience where it sounds like the bullet performed well. So you're moving to a gun in the same caliber, but shoots lighter bullets, at slower speeds?

I'd figure out what's wrong with you CM while also getting a new 6.5G. Have you checked scope and action screws etc? Can you shoot moa with your 308 win? Tons upon tons of ungulates have been killed with the 6.5CM.
Yes, my Howa .308 is under 1/2 MOA at 100 yards on factory Hornady 150 grain ammo.

Agreed,

But no 6.5-264 cal is going to outshoot a .308 or a 30-06. No way. Not hunting anywhere near meat least.

If you really want to break it down, it's 11 in only 3 weekends. We have a problem with aoudad…

Want three of the big ones taken for walls then declaring war at our place. Rats.

After you hang one on the wall, your hatred only gets worse. Hell, I have killed 2-3 bigger than the one on my wall and left them on the hills.

To quote the late Dr Ware (NW80) "if you were to nuke west Texas, the only things that would survive would be cockroaches, coyotes and aoudad"

Interesting. I had no idea they were that much of a nuisance.

Hunting East Texas and now the Hill Country, my jihad has been hog and coyote focused.

I just ordered this exact same gun (Bergara HMR). Can you provide some recommended ammo by range? I.e., 100-200 yard rounds, 3-400 yard, etc.

Mine loves Hornady 140gr ELD Match and also does well with 140 gr Hornady Black BTHPs.

Tried 90gr Varmint XpressMusic and just can't get them to group well.

I hunted with 140gr Norma Whitetail for the first time. Did great but shot was under 100yds.

For steel practice 200-600yds the S&Bs shoot well.

Just got some 123gr SST (same bullet I shoot in my Grendel) but haven't shot them yet. Interested in seeing how the extra velocity performs, likely on hogs 100-175 yds.

Well, I ordered the Howa 1500 6.5 Grendel, hopefully should be here mid-week.

As for my 6.5 CR, I am going to take apart and give it the mother of all cleanings, and remount the rail, rings, and scope and ensure that is all correct. I will then take a box of ammo and go through the barrel break in process again and see if that will tighten things up some. May be a waste of time, but any shooting is always fun. When I can get my hands on different brands of ammo and weights, I will see if the rifle likes them better than the Federal blue box 140 grain.

If you're going to do all that, order an action bedding kit while you're at it.
