Anyone have a guide that hunts spots really close to Houston? I want to take my buddy and our 6 year olds.

Is Katy still the waterfowl hunting capital of Texas?

There are some good places towards El Campo that aren't too far away

We hammer the Muscovy's pretty good. No decoys, just need a little white bread.

I don't know any guides personally but they hunt all around us in Monaville. Google should help. Plenty of duck hunting close to Katy.

A lot of the duck hunters from the Houston area end up somewhere near Hwy 71 between Columbus and El Campo. If that's close enough for you, call Chuck Leamen. His number is googleable.

I guide for WGOhunt.com owners name is Tim but this season has been up and down with more of our hunts being down.

you may want to watch the weather in the dakotas and nebraska and wait until it actually gets cold up there. There are no ducks to speak of down here yet. Been a pretty disappointing season, thus far

I grew up in Katy and you could watch flocks of geese come in by the hundreds. I don't even want to go back to see what it's like now.

I took a customer with Tim during teal season and limited by 8:00AM. He works at Academy HQ in Katy so I had him back at his desk cutting me PO's by lunch time

It was cool to see that the Katy Prairie still has it's moments.

Pintail Lodge in Garwood - top notch operation, have hunted with them multiple times and would go back in a heartbeat. Worst hunt I ever had was something like 10/12 limits in the group.

Same, except I'm still here. It's been eye opening to see urban sprawl at work over the last 10-15 years. My family's last 5 generations have lived here, and if we didn't have a ton of family here I'd be long gone. My kids will experience a much different place than I did growing up.

very similar to doves. Used to hunt a ton around waller and Sealy area growing up. Could go and limit out in minutes. Now, lucky to ever shoot a dove or two it seems like. ****ing suburbs

This. It hasn't been cold enough to push many birds down yet. September teal season was stellar, but big duck season has been less than impressive.

Its really tough right now on the prairie. Wait til the end of the season and catch bw's already heading north.

BTW-there is an outfit called Double JJ (?) that hunts around the Brazos River, north of Brookshire. That is pretty close to Houston.

The best duck hunting spot I ever had was where Cullinan Park is now. Just north of Sugar Land Airport.
