Yeah I know you're up to your ears with your new son but are there any must-eats in Giddings?

I'll be hog hunting at Nails Creek SP Tuesday-Thursday next week. Will probably camp unless I talk myself out of it and get a room in town.

There's a little Chinese place over in the Bealls shopping center that is some of the best Chinese food I've ever had. Hunan something or other.

No ***** In Giddings, TX.

- Los Patrones for Tex Mex
- Hunans for Chinese. May still be take out only. Have to agree with 4. Pretty dang good Chinese food.
- Santa Fe is decent. Their prime rib special is a pretty good value Thursday thru Sunday.
- Taqueria Chihuahua is one of the best breakfast tacos in the state. Can be very busy after 7:00am
- City Meat Market for bbq. Stick with the sausage and pork steak.

Giddings is probably in the 'oh sh-t mode what have I done?'

I'll give him a pass on this one.

I have not been to Hunans but the rest I would agree with.

My parents live there and we eat and Los Patrones and/or Santa Fe just about every time were in town

Right down the road is the Paige roadhouse that's pretty good. The jalapeño cream cheese burger is fantastic

In giddings the breakfast taco place is really good. I've actually never been since I refuse to wait but someone in my family always ends up going to pick them up for us all.

Not sure where you're staying, but JW's Steakhouse in Carmine is really good. If you get down to Roundtop I really like Garden Company. Manditos is also good if you like spending $15 on enchiladas that give you the runs.

Most have already been mentioned, but here's my list:

JW's in Carmine is excellent. Steaks, chicken strips (my favorite), hamburger steak, beer…. Everything is great.

Hunan's by Wal Mart is good, but pretty much still take out only. The other place, Hoa Son is good. Depending on the dish, I sometimes even prefer them.

Patrones is pretty good and the most popular restaurant in town. Wednesday is margarita night and it gets pretty packed. They are like $2.50.

Bullpen is on a backroad south of town, but a great bar with surprisingly good, cheap food. Burgers are good and if they have them again, the southwest egg rolls are legit. Lots of tv's for sports.

Reba's isn't bad, but more of a chick place. Sandwiches and pizza and stuff like that.

Annie's has good seafood and pretty much the only option for that in town. Fried shrimp are good and fried pickles are legit.

Mel's (doughnut shop in front of Brookshires) has a really good breakfast and they open early. Chihuahua's is the other breakfast taco place, but they are very popular and can usually have a line out the door. Unless no one is there or you really, really want to eat there, it may not be worth it.

I've never eaten at the food trailers because I hate going somewhere hoping they are open. Lots of people do like the food there though so may be worth a shot to try.

For bbq, the city meat market is good, but can be hit or miss. My go to is pork and ribs. Get there around 11:30 for good meat. Lunch only.

El Charro is decent Mexican food to change it up. Not great, but decent.

One of my favorite hole in the wall spots is Walch store in Lincoln. It's the gas station on Hwy 21, but they have a mean bacon cheeseburger and cold beer. Cheap too. That's one of my favorites.

Santa Fe has a great salad bar and pretty good food. I like the shrimp poor boy and fish tacos. Don't get a steak there. Leave that for JW's.

That should get you by for a few days.

I always have a good time there

I completely agree with the comments regarding JWs. Kept my list to the funk, but we travel over to JWs quite a bit.

Also agree on chihuahuas. I won't wait more than 5-10 minutes for it. That rule applies for BBQ in general as well

Live in Carmine so JWs is our go to. If in Round Top don't forget about Royers. The lamb and OMG steak are my favorites but everything there is great.

I'm game... hadn't heard of Bullpen until this, but might be fun for an away game next season. I'm just a weekender out there.

So should we ask for the giddingsag06 special? Wait all night, take a bunch of pictures and then the food never comes?

I was in Giddings for work for a few weeks at a time. These are all great options. Not sure if 290 cafe is still there but it was a good coffee and lunch option. And agree with the others, JWs in Carmine was our go to dinner spot.
