Anyone know how to do it?

I have a friend that has some acreage in Burleson County and they apparently have a panther roaming around and causing damage. Swiped several goats, clawed a donkey, has the dogs scared to go out, etc.

Panthera Onca or Puma Oncolar? Sounds like the country cousins are gearing you up for snipe hunt.

What does "clawed a donkey" mean to the kids these days?

Panther was his choice of word, not mine. So if it was black in color or not I don't know. From the description of claw marks, etc though it definitely sounds like some sort of large North American cat. I also am not being wound up by anyone simply because I don't go out there very often.

I'm gonna go ahead and go out on a limb and assure you it was not a black panther.

If it's going after goat and jackass. You need to dress up with JFF jersey and wear Sumlin visor

The panther will find you, then you're all set

OP if it was a panther it had to be black. The only kind.

Tell your buddy to tie a goat to a a tree overnight with a game cam set up.

Looks you caught my catahoula on game cam the other night. He has an affinity for dealing with the wrong end of porcupines. You got porcupines? They have the ability to shoot their spines out onto predators in case you haven't heard.

My FIL saw a black panther recently roaming his property somewhat close to his chicken coop during the middle of the day. He's located over in Milam county. Have heard of other sightings on properties in Caldwell too.

Had a company out of Kerrville come out to the ranch to put in a new hot water heater a few years back and sent two guys out.
One of the fellows was a black man that had apparently never been out in the country much. He asked why our fences were so tall. I told him we had deer and exotic animals. The other guy sent him out to the truck to get parts and in about three minutes he came flying back in to our garage saying he had just seen a black panther by our house and he said he thought it was stalking him.
It was our big black house cat.

If dogs are scared to go out it could be a werewolf?

OP reports of panther/mountain lion/cougar/bear are regularly posted here. Almost all of them are 'a friend saw XXX in east or north Texas. They are all false. Note they NEVER come with game cam pics like you. so you are being subjected to the inside running OB joke.

If their really is this panther it is most likely an escaped pet. Even that is incredibly doubtful. A penned animal probably has little or no hunting skills. Most likely the donkey got tangled in barbed wire fence and the goats got taken by coyotes or maybe a dog pack.

Tell you relative to get game pics or stop telling tall tales.

Surprisingly, black panther meat is delicious if prepared properly.

Like a tender jackalope without the snipey aftertaste.

Steve quit being such a hater. Facts are facts, even the media in East Texas finds black panther sightings to be newsworthy.

Game wardens say that panthers are rare but what people are seeing are mountain lions. I'm so confused. Any chance they could be pumas?

In North America, you're only going to have 2 big cats. The mountain Lion/puma/cougar (Latin name I believe stands for "cat of one color") which is almost exclusively one tan/brown color. I don't have a link to the study but remember that the gene that produces a melanistic mountain Lion, was essentially non-existent and the odds of it happening were somewhere in the 1:5-10MM.

The other big cat is the Jaguar. While they used to roam around Texas, you won't be seeing any of them unless you get in wayyy south Arizona or in Mexico. They're normally spotted but I believe they can and do have black phases.

The Black Panther is not on this continent but is somehow subject to mostly east Texas folklore as real thing in the wild in Texas. I don't know how it originated, probably a damn house cat as mentioned above, but it is constantly passed around without a single shred of evidence, ever…
