Definitely mount that bobcat. Spencer Bownds at Rocky Creek Taxidermy is a cat specialist. He's small time but does good cat work.

I've been in the taxidermy work room at Ottea in San Antonio and have seen a few they were working on. All looked good.

The major issue with bobcats is getting the eyes and face realistic looking. No easy task.

Oh I know, won't mount something that isn't mine though. The mounts are all memories to me. The reason I say by noon tomorrow is because that's when I leave the ranch!

Look up Allen Palermo in Bryan. Every time I have seen one in his shop I thought it looked pretty darn good. Check out the mammals gallery on the website.

Considering him, problem is $1600 as a base price is a little steep for this college kid Not looking for a bargain by any means but would like to explore options before making a jump like that

Thank you! I will, gonna be a while of course. Trying to get a quail to add to the future mount and of course opening day of quail season there were none in sight, yesterday they were everywhere just the way it goes.

Rockdale. He's on speed dial and comes out and capes anything that's getting mounted for us. Whether he gets to do the taxi work or not, we pay him for his precision. Two years ago he told us he wanted to get the reputation as "the cat man", and, as a bit of a connoisseur of taxidermy, I've been following his progress. Bobby Merchant is still my personal deer guy, but I'd take Spencer a cat over anybody in Texas right now.

Check out Comal Taxidermy in New Braunfels. I had them do a bobcat a few years back and it turned out great. I don't know how to post pics, but they do have an instagram page that shows their work.

If cost is an issue, you can do the "rug" thing. Whatever you do though, please don't get it mounted with a "snarl" look. That ruins bobcat mounts. Totally unnatural.

The problem is a rug isn't that much less and sometimes the exact same price because they still need to do the facial work.

Only difference with a full mount is the form they put it on.

I went with a rug because I just don't have space for a full mount.

Get a rug.... Bobcats are hard to mount and quality works come at a price. Allen Palermo would be my recommendation. Also, if you plan on adding another animal they cost as well to mount, while beautiful they are adding to your cost...

Years from now when you're looking back at any mount, you'll either be glad you spent the extra couple hundred bucks or pissed you didn't. Cats are really easy to mess up. Spend the extra money and give it to Palermo.

My buddy does a ton of cats in Midland. He does lots of cats from Africa, a ton of mountain lions from the western states as well as west Texas.

Brosig's Taxidermy. Jace Brosig is the man when it comes to cats.
