Getting a puppy that is 50% Great Pyrenees in a few weeks. Does anybody have recommendations for a brand of puppy food that has worked well for a big breed?

We have a 1/2 Great Pyrenees 1/2 GSD and her trainer recommended Purina Pro Plan Large Breed Puppy food. No complaints here.

Lots of DVM's recommend Science Diet. We use it for our labs and German shepherds.

1/2 Pyr, 1/2 Anatolian - He loves the maroon bag from Tractor Supply.
About every other day we give him some boiled chicken and broccoli too.

From what I've experienced, most Pyrenees owners just leave them in their front yard to feast on cyclists...

But seriously, Purina One Smart Blend has become our go-to for our two larger dogs.

I feed Putin's Pro Plan.

Used to feed science diet, but switched recently at the rec of a vet. He said science diet had more filler. Chester likes it a lot more than the SD.

But he's a small guy

Victor Hi-pro plus. Drop a couple fish oil pills in for skin/coat health. Cheaper and better quality than pro-plan, in my opinion.
Pretty sure the vets get a kick-back from pro-plan so they're always pushing that stuff. Not that it's bad, but theres better stuff out there for less $.

Just found this thread.

I had good results with Victor High Pro Plus.

Then switched to Maximum Bully Elite K9 and my dog gained 7lbs of muscle within a few months (kept same athleticism).

Victor High Pro Plus (2020 [chainlink fence background], 88lbs)

vs.

Maximum Bully (last month, 95lbs)

PPP for both my labs. Whether they're a couch potato (wife's dog) or a duck dog (my dog), it works very well. No complaints and was used by both breeders.

Used Science Diet and Purina Pro Plan on dogs in the past. No issues with either, other than one dog suddenly deciding she didn't like Science Diet after a few years and a big move across state.

Our current pup is on Victor. I love it and so does she. Always solid and regular #2's. She has put on healthy weight very regularly, and has boundless energy.

Victor is worth a look. Made in TX, if I remember right.

Victor Green Bag for my Wolfhound.
Switched from Stella and Chewy which he did horrible on.

The GSD breeder used Royal Canin, so that's what we're using so far good. Might check out some of the other recommendations.

Edit: although between the small rocks/play sand/grasshoppers/and anything else he eats I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to try something else.

Looking for y'all's thoughts on amounts of food. Our little lady is 7months, 50lbs at last weight.

Currently we feed her 1cup dry AM, 1cup dry and 1/2 can of wet in the PM

We believe she's beauceron mix and will max out about 70-75lbs. Her growth has slowed lately. For a while she was gaining 5lbs biweekly lately it's about 5lbs a month. This isn't surprising though, her breed is a slow developer and is supposed to stay in a puppy development phase closer to 18 months

Another vote for Victor. Either get one with glucosamine, or add a separate glucosamine w/ chondroitin supplement. Large breed dogs prone to hip & knee issues as they get older. Best to start them early.
