Seems i am doing alot of tables lately. This one though is one of the larger ones at around 10' long (115"). Taking pictures in my garage and managing to get the full table in frame was not that easy.

The base style with the tusked tenons is also popular lately. This one had a matching bench with base to go along with it.

Very nice work.
If you are ever in a hail of gunfire this would be the table to flip over to protect yourself with!

That's incredible. I'd cry the first time someone sat on the bench in jeans with metal dammits (whatever they are called) on them and scratched it.

Great work again but I gotta say this ......in the 4th picture of the table top towards the bottom it looks like Alf is sad and just wants to go home.........

Its always a concern for me to. I use a waterbased lacquer (target coatings em6600). My base coat is a dewaxed shallec, then 1-2 coats of the lacquer in a high gloss sheen. I then do a topcoat in the final sheen I want. For pieces like this or other higher wear surfaces, there is a crosslinker additive from the supplier (cl100) to the topcoat I add which helps improve scuff and wear resistance. Its the same finish I use on my table with my 6 and 9 year old boys.

I also like to keep some natural defects in projects like these (but never big enough on the top to be a food/crumb trap). This helps add to the natural look, and also helps the inevitable dent or ding blend in. On the bench I was able to leave more severe defects as-is, just as long as they aren't sharp or can affect comfort or catch clothes.

Well yeah that's exactly what I'd do too, but I have family members/numbnut friends that...

The good news is that the people that will be on that bench most of the time are aged 13 and down, three of them boys. So there's basically no chance it'll get scratched.

My daughters like to stab my white oak table I built just before my oldest was born with forks...

You wouldn't happen to do custom orders would you? We are moving into our new place next week and need a coffee table as the focal piece for the living room. We know exactly what we want but can't find it anywhere.

Your stuff is phenomenal.

most everything I do is custom. I don't really have space to store many finished projects. shoot me an email at gramswoodworks at gmail dot com with what you have in mind.

I've been meaning to ask the pro….I got a new table for my office conference room. It is acacia wood with natural edges like the one on this thread. What is the best way to protect it from scratches? The natural edges make a glass top not work well. Any other ideas??

Amazing work (once again!)

BTW, Suzanne is talking nonstop about the Island Top you did for her. She is now finally allowing Steve to set groceries (carefully) on it
