I had my dad sign up after the recommendations I read here. He signed up months ago and had an august expected delivery date. August came and went. No updates. He's in Hamilton Tx, 76531 if that matters.

Anyone know anything or have any advice on where to get a status update?

I don't know a single person in Texas that has received their dishy. There's a thread on Reddit where folks keep track of who is getting equipment shipped. Lately seems like all northern states, Canada, and Europe.

I can guarantee he didn't have an August expected delivery date. Starlink has never provided specific months. I suspect he has a "expected delivery mid-late 2021" like most everyone else in Texas

Starlink has supposedly put on hold new satellite deployments while designing a gen 2 satellite. They're running into capacity issues. The chip shortages are also limiting how many user terminals they can produce which are also being redesigned.

My "pre-order" is also for mid-late 2021, but I highly doubt it will be delivered in the next 3 months... If you've ever followed any of Musk's companies, he very much over promises and under delivers. Tesla has pushed back the new roadster 3+ years after people have put up much larger deposits. The cyber truck has been delayed several years as well. It's best to just forget about the $100. It'll get delivered when it gets delivered.

If he has strong cellular signal, both AT&T and T-Mobile now have truly unlimited plans again for ~$50 a month. I average ~30mbps on AT&T and Verizon ~70mbps on a rural tower.

I can't help with this, but believe it or not they're laying fiber in Hamilton County. Shouldn't be long before he gets real internet available.

I would like to agree with you but my dad's place is 8 miles west of Hamilton on pavement and 2 miles south of Hwy 36 on dirt.

The local internet tower company wants $10k to put up a tower with no guarantee that it will work. They used a drone to estimate that it should work but no guarantee.

Someone above asked about cell phone service. Zero cell service in the house. On a lucky day, one spot on the patio might let a call go out. 50 yards behind the house or 100 yards in front of the house - there's some cell signal but not very reliable.

My parents are 8 miles west of Evant on 84, then 2 miles south on a county road, and there's fiber running 500 yards from their place. I was shocked by that, but I've seen the fiber going in the ground.

I wonder if that is anything like the situation we have here in Gillespie County. Hill Country Telephone Co-op ran fiber down many roads but won't let anyone hook up. Hwy 290 east, Hwy 16 north for example. They were paid for the work under government programs to extend rural internet, but they don't want to actually be in the service end to that extent. They made a lot of money doing nothing that benefits rural residents. Starlink will gut people like this when it comes on line which is fine by me.

Georgia. I signed up/paid for Starlink in March. Haven't heard anything since then.

I get one bar cell service. I got a WeBoost antenna & booster, Cradlepoint Modem and sim card from OTR mobile. I get 20 Mbs down, 4 up. Usually works great for about 6 months and then something happens and it takes a while with customer service to get it back up and running or they switch to a new cell company or whatever.

My GF recently got me a Directv sub with ATT Internet for backup. My house is 1/4 mile from the road. Download is 4 Mbs and <1 up. It's barely useable, but I've had some reliability issues with the SIM card, so like I said, it's functional as a backup. Those poor guys are still trying to bury that cable.

I have a barn 10 miles out of town with fiber internet (SW Randall County). They ran it 1/2 mile from the paved road for free. That paved road has about 5 houses in 10 miles

Most co-ops are great for service

OTR is pretty garbage for a reseller. They've had so many issues over the last year or two changing service providers, getting SIMs cancelled, etc.

You might look at CircledIn. Get the $50 AT&T Elite plan or I think it's the T-Mobile Magenta Max that offers un-throttled, not deprioritized data. You'll need to do "magic" on the Cradlepoint changing the IMEI on its modem to that of a cell phone.

Thank you for that. I'll definitely look into it. I have not been happy with OTR Mobile.

My parents got Pathway and it works well. They have a pretty good line of sight to the Blue Ridge water tower though, and they were able to use the existing tv antennae tower so they didn't have put up a new one.

They're about 10 miles south off 281.

When all the covid stuff went down, I spent a lot of time there working on a Verizon hot spot, which was less than ideal. Pathway (or whatever it's called) is much much better.

Regarding Starlink .....and just as additional info not directly relevant to OP , but info nonetheless.

Starlink is technically still in beta mode. Its coverage is better in the more northern tier of states.

Here in Central Colorado, Starlink rolled out midwinter and many here are getting mid 100's mbps with only occasional outages. Starlink has stopped taking additional orders for now and are saying will resume again in a few months.

In rural Colorado it is the ONLY way to get high speed if you are outside of the typical ski/mountain town areas.

Folks who have adopted it are pleased with it and are not looking to go back to their previous options.

I've been waiting for mid to late 2021 since February with Starlink. I'm in far west Washington county. Nothing else is a great option that I've heard of, but we'll see how long they take to actually deploy.

Still waiting in Robertson County. Didn't sign up until late May. We have been using Rise...which isn't great, but better than I expected.

Rollout is 0.4% in Texas, 0.1% in Georgia.

Do you know which service provider is installing the fiber?

I had my father in-law sign up for starlink a few weeks ago as he does not have any viable option outside Beaumont. I am hoping when he gets his delivered it will work well for him. I have read about a lot of outages occurring from online Starlink reviews. Apparently they have launched only 1,800 of 10,000 planned satellites. There has also been push back from the astronomer community on the 10k satellites. So not sure if they will ever launch all 10k.

Yeah, he didn't have a monthly delivery date.

He has, "Starlink is targeting coverage in your area in mid to late 2021."

He's waiting like all of us. They are manufacturing 5,000 dishy mcflatfaces a month. That's the real name for the dish because musk is fun and funny

Also, don't change a thing! If you cancel and reorder you might see 2022 or later. If you change address then the same

These are such taunting signs... I have several still marked SW Bell in the highway ROW a very long 500' from my house. I know fiber is there, but it's dark, and I haven't been able to find any way to get it activated from AT&T.

If it is AT&T and in a rural area, you can almost bet that those are backbone fiber cables that are between cities(between central offices) or central offices to remote terminals; they are not meant for individual customers.

We have several WISPs using them to provide services to their "towers" in addition to the cell phone tower on an adjacent property. The WISPs have apparently leased some of the strands and are offering fiber service in some areas.

I wasn't necessarily looking to lease a strand for individual use but to form a new WISP

LOL, aren't you a grown adult who is a lawyer? Your girlfriend has to buy your internet/TV package for you?

Last month Grayson-Collins just put up fiber-optic cable on the electric highlines along the FM road my house is on. The poles are on my side of the road (I have one on my property).

Yet GC told me yesterday it will be next year before my house gets the fiber service.
