I couldn't love this administration any more! What pioneers!

It's a shame for all of my Soviet gun toting comrades. Better go stack the tins deep!

It says for new and pending permits of Russian ammo imports.

Just trying to be an optimist.

Glad I don't have an AK anymore.

Pissed either way as the cheap steel cased stuff is a major factor in the supply of all the main calibers. Worst of all say goodbye to affordable 6.5 grendel.

This **** makes my blood boil, and this proves their target has moved to cutting off the ammo supply as their gun banning efforts are taking too long.

I have enough 762x54r, 762x39, and 545 for my grandkids to mag dump.

Sucks for cheap 223, 308, 6.5g, etc. Remove the cheapest option from the market and prices for everything that was above tend to increase. Will put upwards pressure on cheap bottom end brass case.

So biden wants to make sure there is more for him to buy to give to the Taliban? What a traitor, and what a disgrace to the biden name.

Crap.

Midway has some Brown Bear 20 round boxes still available. Forty cents a round. Everywhere else has been cleaned out.

I don't use 7.62x39, but the 7.62x54r is still in stock at sgammo if you are looking for some. Looks like the 39 is in stock, too. Not cheap, but it's there.

Yeah, bad news on that front. Russia imported a ton of the cheap steel case 9mm and 5.56 too.

Just when the market was getting slightly less stupid, here comes Joe.

Tired of this crap.

Yeah that's going to be one of the worst parts. It's not just soviet calibers, these factories were helping fill the gap for all other rounds by producing pistol and 556 ammo.

Na. They don't need 7.62x39 anymore. Now they need 5.56

Fun fact: the agent used to poison Navalny isn't explicitly covered by the treaty referenced in the press release.

If you are into AKs (I am) or are just addicted to cheap crappy Russian ammo (I'm not, but I still have a bunch of it) and you haven't seen this coming for years, if not the last 10 months...you sorta deserve what you get.

But, y'all need to stop all this pearl clutching. It's unbecoming. There are literally dozens of new companies and overseas companies that are gearing up to serve the US market. In six months we will be awash in ammo. And prices will be back to what we saw a couple years ago.

These things don't happen overnight, but they do happen.

They've been better lately. I successfully placed an order for 400 rounds last night - at $7.50 a box, though. It says it shipped, so I'm hoping that it's boxed and ready to ship on Monday.

Crazy how it sold out last night, then is available again today at $11 more a box.

That's good news. I'm still waiting on my wife's .380 I ordered last summer. June or July I think

Currently says estimated date 8/31/21. Shipping date has changed maybe 8 times now.

He will after opening the market to Chinese imports.

S&W 380 MPEZ?

Got that for my girl. Slick little rig.

Yep. She likes it. Last round sometime won't feed though. Not sure what the problem is. Perhaps spring tension?

Another update: the TL/DR version is the spice will continue to flow, so the only price hikes/shortages for the next year or so will be due only to panic buying, not a lack of supply.

If the reason was really to punish the Russians instead of being a veiled effort to deny Americans additional ammo, why didn't he also ban Russian vodka and caviar ?

Or pressure Germany and cancel the pipeline deal? Biden is on the verge of being a weekend at Bernies and his handlers have made it abundantly clear who the real enemies are... not the Taliban, not MS-13, not Antifa, but people that celebrate things like the constitution and our freedom.

They aren't trying to punish Russians. If that was the case we wouldn't be helping them secure gas and pipeline deals.

This is about keeping the serf class from buying ammo.

Another opinion, from SG Ammo operator:

There has been a lot of people asking me about the sanctions on Russian ammo imports put in place by the US state department this past week and what it means for the future of ammunition supplies. There will be more clarity in several weeks when we can see the publication of a Federal Register notice expected on September 7, 2021. The state department announcement can be seen at this page - https://www.state.gov/fact-sheet-united-states-imposes-additional-costs-on-russia-for-the-poisoning-of-aleksey-navalny/

My Russian Ammo Sanction Opinion - First, I hope you don't 'shoot the messenger' and I'd like to pat everyone on the back and tell them things are going to be okay but that wouldn't be truthful. In my opinion the sanctions are a major game-changer in the ammunition supply chain that is already strained. For the time being and based on what we can see so far, we believe that this will be the effective end of Russian made ammo in the USA as it plays out over the next year or so as import permits expire or are filled to the quantity limits, and in doing so eliminate supply of a huge portion of the ammo in the US commercial market.

From what I understand, the USA commercial market consumes around 800,000,000 rounds of ammunition from Russia every year, roughly 800 semi truck trailers worth in a mix of the most popular calibers. For the immediate short term we expect ammo to keep coming in from Russia but I expect the importers to raise prices substantially which is understandable to me given its the end of the lifespan for their business model. The calibers we believe will be most effected are soviet metric calibers like 7.62x39, 5.45x39, and 7.62x54R because there is almost zero available manufacturing capacity for these calibers outside of Russia and what little exists will not make a significant impact in filling the needs of the USA commercial market without Russian ammo absorbing the lion's share.

In addition to these calibers, I estimate that the Russians supplied 30% to 40% of the 223 Rem / 5.56 and 9mm Luger consumed at the shooting ranges across this country, and large portions of the 45 auto, 9x18 Makarov, 30 carbine, 308 Winchester / 762x51, 380 Auto, 300 Blackout and 6.5 Grendel. I see this as a potentially devastating blow to the supply for of 223 Rem / 5.56 and 9mm Luger, where the reduction in supply from Russia will be difficult to make up in the short term for other manufacturers who have already been unable to keep up with demand this past year. Consumers who have used Russian ammo regularly will have to move on from Russian made ammo to those other products made elsewhere and in doing so absorb the supply and prolong recent shortages. Again this is my opinion, based on my knowledge of the industry after 20+ years experience, and how things play out over time could be different. For me, selling Russian made ammo is about 40% of my business, and while we plan to source as much supply as we can from other sources, we do expect this to have a major negative impact on supply for 7.62x39, 7.62x54R, 5.45x39, 9mm Makarov, 9mm Luger, 223 Rem / 5.56 NATO, as well as the other mentioned calibers.
