I have been thinking about a semi-auto .22 pistol. Not looking to break the bank just have something that is fun to plink around with at the lease as well as begin to let my son shoot some.

What say you TexAgs...what should I get...please keep to stuff I could actually currently find also prefer something that doesn't look like a dart-gun or bb gun

Ruger 10/22 is hard to beat. They hold up, shoot well, and something that can be passed down for generations.

We have a Ruger Mark IV Lite with a Deadair Mask. It's a nice setup.

I have heard that those are universally considered one of the best...but that is basically the prototype of "bb/air/dart gun" look that I'm trying not to get.

It doesn't look that different from any other real pistol. Maybe get it in stainless then? Put a Hogue grip on it with a red dot?

Are you wanting something with a shorter barrel that looks more like a Glock (and if so...well there are many bb/air lookalikes of Glock as well).

Might also look at a Kel-Tec CP33 - but to me those look more like a toy than a real gun like the Ruger...ymmv.

I have a 22 pistol and rifle that I love to shoot....... when ammo was 3-4 cents a round for quality ammo. At current rediculousness prices of 20 cents a round or more, I have not shot either in over a year.

Have a Glock 44. No complaints from me or the kids who shoot it more than I do. Will be good when they transition to G19s.

I bought one of these (22 compact) recently and nothing but FTE with multiple brands of ammo on mine. I do like the way it feels in my hand though. I need to send it in to have them look at it.

Have you run it wet? Mine eats anything and no issues unless I run suppressed with certain subs, it won't cycle, but other than that it's been flawless.

Since this is the OB, I figured I would also recommend the Black Mamba...but then I see they now have a Mini Mamba! Such a perfect short barrel for use with a suppresor.

Put a tactical solutions trail lite threaded barrel on that sucker and get back to me. You will love it. matched with a lightweight supressor this thing is awesome. No one can shoot this and not have a smile when they are done.

As a FFL and License To Carry Instructor, I second the Ruger Mark IV 22/45
My LTC students all qualify with these guns and they have never given me any issues.

Highly recommend.

CP33 and a Buckmark for pistols. I'm also becoming very fond of my Winchester Wildcat for what it is and the price. Way easier to clean than a 10/22 but no aftermarket parts yet.

You could also go with the Ruger .22 charger. I added a stabilizer and love it. Lots of fun at the ranger and have seen a few online recently for about the same price as a 22/45.
