How long do you want to ignore this user?
Cross posted from Home Improvement board:

Bought my kids a Power Wheels Dune Racer a couple years ago and it's not moving forwards or backwards. I've watched a lot of YT videos and have done the following:

- checked that the battery is actually holding a charge using an amp/voltage meter (it's a new battery)
- taken the entire thing apart and looked for loose wires, broken wires, fried connections, etc
- replaced the shifter
- took apart both rear wheel gear boxes to confirm that everything is greased and spinning correctly (it is)

What I haven't done:
- bought new gear boxes
- bought new foot pedal
- bought new wiring harness
- ??????

Any advice? One random thing it does is when I plug in the battery to the connector at the back and press the door pedal, the right rear wheel will spin for about 1 second and but I can't get it to repeat that over and over again.

Would love to be a hero for my son and fix this thing. He and I have worked on it and I'm stuck. Feels like any YT video I watch I've already done it.

Thanks in advance!

My guess is foot pedal is out. Can you bypass it to check?

Use your volt meter to trace the wiring starting at the battery. If 12V is coming from the battery then move up to the next connection by keeping one lead on the negative terminal and moving the positive lead up to the next connection point. Check that you have 12V there, such as going into the foot pedal. Then check that you have 12V coming out of the foot pedal when it is pressed in. Keep going until you find where the power stops. You can also use the ohm meter part of your multi-meter to see if there is a good connection.

Might as well do a 40v battery swap while your working on it.

Update: I know power is getting from the battery to the foot pedal but i'm not seeing any power at the connection points to the shifter (forward/reverse).

Any thoughts?

Foot pedal tends to corrode and not make good contact I've cleaned them up before but sometimes is easier just to buy a new one. You can try QD contact cleaning spray and light sanding. But sometimes the switch itself is compromised. I would also double check the battery PW brand batteries are notorious for being DOA.

i should have mentioned that i purchased a new foot pedal already and that hasn't changed anything.

at this point i've purchased a new foot pedal and shifter. the only things i could purchase now are gear boxes for the rear wheels

You sure the motors aren't toast?
