Considering buying a lot near a lake and putting a cabin on it for a weekender. Anyone have experience with Leland or Ulrich Cabins? I've also seen Satterwhite as well. Any other builder recommendations? Thoughts to consider while looking for a builder in Texas?

Is there another reason for the log cabin other than just the cool factor/looks?

Like the look, price point is reasonable as well for new builds

Imo, log cabin looks out of place in most of Texas. I'd worry about resale. It's the look you want, but how many others want that?

If it ends up looking like those pics above, it will be way nicer than most of the stuff out there.

Bought an Ulrich 6 yrs ago and put on our property in Bastrop county. The whole experience with them was very easy, on time and affordable. We put our deposit down in late May and they delivered the week after Labor Day, only because I made them wait about 10 days because I was busy. They are extremely well built and we haven't had any problems or complaints. Definitely worth a drive to Cleburne to look at if you haven't seen one in person and are seriously interested.

You just have to make sure you make the soil all around it deadly to every termite from now until the end of time

Satterwhite? A friend built with them and love it.

My dream is to do this same thing on a lake.

I believe you can buy the shell from them and then get a contractor to finish out the rest

Thanks for the feedback! We're planning on stopping by Cleburne in the near future. What's the HVAC situation and how well does their system work in Texas? I'm not familiar with the unit I see in the photos.

I like what they show as well, but have reservations about what their pricing might look like at the moment given the state of lumber. They have a disclaimer posted on their website for each of their floor plans; due to the volatility of the market to call ahead...... I need to do that.

So what do these cost all finished out?
Or at least in the past before this spike.

I have been wanting to put a weekender out on some property

Ordered just logs from Satterwhite and got rest of the materials from local lumber yard with a builders discount. Came out much cheaper than ordering a kit. Of course this was about 35 yrs ago

What? Most of the Texas population lives in areas with trees. I've seen beautiful log cabins all over from the Sabine river to the Hill Country. Especially in the Big Thicket/Piney Woods regions.

I've never dealt w/ Satterwhite, but they're popular with a lot of my parents' neighbors and seem to hold up well.

We just went with a single window unit mounted in the wall. Since our cabin is only 600 sq ft and only really use it from October- April we didn't see the need to spend the extra $$ for the mini-split units, ours has been fine with the small unit.
We have a 6' porch the length of the cabin and it is definitely a well used area.
I think all in With delivery, set & leveled and then porch & skirting put on after electrical and plumbing hooked up was $57K, I'm sure you can't do it for less than a $100K now.
We really enjoy it and it is 100 times better than the 5th wheel we were using.

When the guys finished setting my cabin they said it was one of the best looking spots they had set one, recommended that I take pictures and send to our salesman to use in future brochures.

We built our own in Burleson County primarily using cul-pak materials from Lowe's. It took a lot of extra work and time picking through the seconds and scraps but saved us a fortune.

Looks awesome! Love the fact that you didn't razz the trees.

Porches! Cabins are all about the outside space for sure!

I'm a fan of slapping a 5000btu window unit in every room. Easy to control temp, cheap to run, and when you have a problem $100 at lowes buys a new one.

No experience with Ulrich's cabins but I do have one of their sheds and it is one of the best things I've ever bought. Worked with Everett Ulrich 817-906-4428 and he was great. When they came to install it I was at work but had marked off where I wanted it. Installers placed it exactly where I asked , parallel to a fence with enough room for a riding mower to pass through.

I saw the pricing, but it was "starting at"

I was curious what these things are actually costing finished out, and what you need to add on top to really be complete. They look pretty compelling for a weekend piece of land where you really don't want to invest in a "forever home"
