I have several technical caps. My "running" caps are polyester based that I can easily wash. Most of them are Headsweats brand. My hiking/other caps are mostly nylon-type fabric that is easily cleaned -- may be washable but I usually hand wash them -- but I go with nylon due to them being more weather protecting. Both get the job done from an SPF perspective.

If I were doing an AT hike, I'd definitely take an OR hat. But Amazon sells several different "off" brands of similar caps. I have a couple -- one I keep in my go backpack that is foldable and ready to wear if I find myself out somewhere without a cap. Another I keep right at the back door to easily grab when I leave if I need it. With that said, there's nothing wrong with getting a good brand and avoiding likely Chinese made or sourced stuff.

I wear a black or tan Stetson for fall to spring and straw Resistol Spring to fall. Aggie cap when running boats or flying. No others needed.

If you spend a lot of time in wet or windy conditions or using a camera/binos etc then Shelta as they have a plastic piece sewn into the brim to keep the front from flapping.

Shelta Hats have a polymer insert into the front brim so it doesn't flip up in the wind and holds it's shape. Had every hat out there and this is far and away the best. Condor model for my 7 7/8 melon.

Nothing fancy, but most hats make my head feel super warm and get uncomfortable really quickly. I've got an Orvis waxed canvas hat that I can wear all day and not even notice it's there.

You pay a little more up front but they last. My current one is 8 years old.
They are washable.
You cant throw them in a suitcase pull them out and go.
They have a unique strap system that holds them securely to your head at high speeds, but if you did lose them on a boat they float.

The thing people don't typically include in their Sunbody/Palm Leaf hat recommendations is that a heavy palm hat can be hotter than hades. To me they are similar to felt hats in terms of summer comfort.
