Howdy folks. My wife and I are kicking around the idea of pulling the RV somewhere to NM later this summer and I'm curious about your favorite campgrounds. We're still a little unsure on whether or not we're going to road trip quite that far with a 3 month old and a 2 year old, however, my plan is to take things super slow and just enjoy the week and not get in any sort of rush. I'm looking for a spot that we can spend 3-4 nights in with full hookups (no boondocking on this trip). We'll want to do some easy hiking and fishing with my older boy, but I also know we'll probably be spending a considerable amount of time in camp with an infant. So I'd like to be somewhere with good scenery where we can sit in camp and take in views and enjoy cool mountain air while the baby sleeps. Something with a river or lake within walking distance of camp is definitely a bonus. Let me know your thoughts and suggestions...

We stayed in a cabin at 4K Red River in Red River, NM, last October. Great spot. They have RV spots in spitting distance of fishable public Red River plus stocked ponds. All the amenities of town are within 5 minutes. Off roading galore, and you can drive a bunch of Forest Service roads out of town (further) into the mountains without an off road vehicle.

Rent a side by side for half a day and go up to Goose Lake with the older one while the wife and little one go shopping.

Another plug for Red River NM. At almost 8800' the weather and scenery are stunning. We were just there a week ago and stayed at Red River RV park. Owners George and Gloria were wonderful. They have an on-site ATV rental business if you're into that kind of thing. Gorgeous scenery. Take the drive from RR to Taos, then Angel Fire, then Eagle's Nest.

Huge potential for hiking, fishing, atv/Jeep, etc. The River runs directly through the campground.

Don't go to Red River this weekend.

We like Roadrunner RV Resort in Red River. Red River flows through the park and is stocked regularly.

Also like Lazy Day Cabins and RV Hideaway in Cloudcroft/Mayhill. Might need 4WD to get up the hill. Not much fishing around Cloudcroft. Plenty of hiking. Mexican Trestle is a pretty easy hike with kids. A lot of the parks around Cloudcroft have gone "adult only".

Used to enjoy Bonito Hollow RV Park north of Ruidoso, but it's under new ownership and I wasn't impressed the last time we went. Rio Bonito flows through the park. Bonito Lake is still being repairs from the Little Bear fire.

If you know Cloudcroft area well enough there is fishing to had. Silver Springs has a trout pond can pay to fish in.

If want to get a license and fish then Rio Peñasco runs through Cloudcroft and Mayhill area off NM82. Mesilla Valley Flyfishers have a two-mile public access lease on the Cleve Ranch. A $10 daily permit is available at the well-posted parking areas along US Highway 82

Rio Peñasco runs along NM130 and US82. . It's all private with some public "pay to access" spots. Great trout fishery!

We hit red river a lot. Fishing, hiking, 4x4 trails. You can drive down to the rio Grande to hike, fish trophy waters, or over the hill to eagles nest to charter fish.

Another vote for Roadrunner RV park in Red River. We had a spot that backs up to the river and it was awesome. Deer in the park every day. Did some hiking and took the keep on some off-road trails.
