What would underlying shares entail for a now publicly traded company?

Probably, will need the death certificate, will, probate, or other such documents.

But I'm like you, I looked on the site and it didn't state how to do so.

If you legitimately have a relative that you are heir to, I'd click the "claim" button, and see what the following pages tell you to do. As long as it's an honest claim, all they can do is ask for more documentation.

I did this a few years ago for my employer and gathered up about $50K.

Shockingly, none of that found its way into my own personal slush fund in the budget...

Thanks Texags! Somehow I have $2k in there. Not sure what from, but I'm not going to argue with free money.

This is what I am trying to figure out. What is needed to get something from a dead family member? Anyone done this?

For my deceased grandfather, my dad was having to provide death certificate and proof that he was executor of the estate to be able to claim it.

I wonder what you need to do to find out if a not disclosed claim with just a last name could be yours or a deceased family member. Claim it and see what happens. Basically only shows last name, amount, property ID and not disclosed as holder and property type??

Their site says that they will ask for more documents if needed. So try to claim it and see what happens.

Found my FIL about 24K a couple months ago. He's filled out the paperwork but not sure on where he is in the processor if he ever got a check yet.

Bump. Got an unsolicited phone call today from (I kid you not) Stealth Investigations, LLC, about a Texas unclaimed property record that has my name on it. Some of the info is accurate, some isn't, as if the state accidentally merged two or more records together. I'm looking into it, but with a giant amount of skepticism. Tips or warnings? Have not signed anything.

You should check the state website and see what the claim is from. I think a recovery firm is capped at 10% of the value. But you can probably pursue recovery yourself with some basic paperwork. A recovery firm is only going to be as good as the backup/documentation you can provide.

This.

Say "Thanks for bringing this to my attention", and then go claim the money yourself. It's not super hard if you have a little documentation.

Thanks for the bump, found a couple of old Capital Credits looking for me, from an Electric Coop (25 years ago).

ETA: They were not in there a few years ago when I looked myself up. Keep an eye on it.
Pretty sure most of you don’t know me.

I have $500 from an MRI that I had several years ago, but have been too lazy to submit all the documentation. I'll add it to my weekend to-do list.

Thanks for bumping my thread. I like to do it about this time of year.
I just pulled in another $200+ around Christmas.
I would think Covid probably created medical expenses that could work their way into this site.

I check every time this thread gets bumped… so thank you!

Weird that I just found one for my wife from 1992. I am 100% sure that I would have seen that when I've checked before. I think it wasn't there before.

I found an unclaimed payment due to my deceased dad. Started the claim process and received a list of documents they need, some of which don't seem to apply and others that aren't available to me.

Below the instructions it says "the list below contains all the documents required to start the claim process..." but later it says to "complete, sign and return your claims forms with your ID even if you are unable to provide all the requested documents."

Has anyone been able to get a claim paid without supplying all the 8 document requests on the list? This question is specific to the "Heir Claim Form" process.

I claimed several payments in December- $20 was actually from A&M. Hadn't heard back until today and it's all finally been approved. Total is ~ $235

Howdy, we have several amounts there from the passing of both my FIL and MIL. How does one go about getting the wills and Death Certificates so we can claim the amounts? Thanks
