Driving to Clovis, NM today. Looks like I'll be skimming the southern edge of this.

Had a miserable Jr. High track meet in Gruver last night. Weather was miserable, the competition was fantastic. We were watching the weather closely and looked like we were going to get a bunch of rain. Ended up with 0.13" from it.

I'm glad the really bad weather appears to stay east of us, but weather is unpredictable at best in the spring.

Just got some heavy rain and small hail. Hopefully the bad stuff stays East over open country.

Ahh. We didn't get any hail (yet) was just curious on timing.

We can't get any field work done so shop time it is.

Tornado in Happy with a velocity signature of 170 knots

3:49pm, tornado has been on the ground for several miles over open country, about to cross highway 217 between Canyon and Palo Duro Canyon

Means it's headed toward the Amarillo Airport or points east, if it holds together

It's about to get western.

Great video, I believe that's 10-12 miles south of Canyon. Thankfully, mostly open country out there.

EDIT: Just saw a Facebook video, damage to entrance area looks light.

Yankee can't spell "Palo".

And any damage should be to the entrance buildings, and park ranger residence at the gate. Structures inside the park should be okay.

The actual entrance building at PD is stone, and built by the CCC.

Of more concern would be the RV Park, just outside the gate.

I've asked some folks about the research turbine on the WTAMU Nance Ranch. It's the tallest in North America, and was not far from the path of this storm. Will be interesting to see how it did.

UPDATE

7:00 PM

RCSO, Randall County Fire, Canyon Fire, and Texas Parks and Wildlife continue to search for one of five hikers reported missing after the storm.

Four were found safe.

16 weathered the storm on the trail and are safely out. 42 were evacuated off the trail as the storm was approaching. Mobile command and drones are assisting in the search.

Not to make light of the potential damages and all that goes with tornados and hope everyone up there is safe, but I had no idea Frankie relocated to the Panhandle of Texas to see this in person.




And before I get hammered about posting a Franke like I am making fun of him, I am not. The guy is making an industry of his videos and has his own Youtube channel. Probably banking on it as well. Good for him. It is just that the guy in the rain/hail video sounds very similar.

Last lost hiker was found about 8:30 last night.

There is a private RV Park and Zip Line just outside the Park entrance at Palo Duro. No injuries, but several RVs were trashed. Photo and link below is the Randall County Sheriff Office Facebook page. Lots more photos there.
