Thanks for all the information and recommendations.

I sent the link of the thread to my dad, who is the executor, so once we get a more detailed inventory, one of us may reach out to y'all with questions.

I'll certainly post the estate sale information when it comes, but will probably give you a sneak peak of more things. I'm told that there is quite a bit more that hasn't been pictured.

We're thinking of getting a realtor to to get an estimate of the estate.
It's an active farm and also has a couple of oil wells, and natural gas well.

Can anyone recommend a knowledgeable real estate agent in the area that could assist?

Love this generation of Chevy trucks, called "Art Deco". Built from around 1941 to 1947
I hope this isn't an inappropriate question for the op, and I am sorry for your loss.

What would a truck like this, in this condition, sell for generally? I would love to own something like this.

Wish I could tell you. It'd be worth up to $2000 for me, but if someone really wanted it, $6000 wouldn't surprise me.

Been taking lots of pics.
Everything's been sitting for years now, so they all need TLC to get them running.
Most of the tractors don't seem too bad, some are rough though, but the vehicles are in rough shape. The bodies and metal is okay, but soft interior material has been eaten up. Didn't look in the 2 ton Chevy C60, so not sure of it's interior.

The art deco Chevy is a '47 model 1 ton (or heavier). I didn't see an ID plate.

He has some miniature real engines, each with their own case. Those were really neat to see.
There's also some surveyor's equipment.

We'll be back in a couple of months once we talk to estate companies and realtors and can take some more time off of work. When we come back, we'll start cleaning out the house.

For those who expressed interest in something, we can try to arrange something then. I'll write your emails down and will contact you.

Thanks for all of the assistance and offers of help.

One of the biggest selling points for farmland in this area is irrigation capacity. How good is the water under it? And are there good irrigation wells in place?

Let me look up the folks that did my wife's grandparents estate liquidation. They did a great turnkey job.

https://twosistersestates.wordpress.com/

They are in Dumas, but it's not far at all.

Also. If you need anything locally, I'm happy to help if I can.

As I recall, he had a bunch of antique tractors.

There's at least one water well on the property.
We were told to check the water quality as well by one of our local friends we sat down with yesterday, so we'll need to check the records or get a new test performed if it's been awhile.

Quality or quantity? I'm not aware of any bad water in the Ogallala. Quite the contrary

I think it was both quality and quantity because she mentioned flow rates, but I wasn't at this meeting. Another relative was and was relaying the information.

There were still a few 750-1000 gpm irrigation wells in that area when I was there, but I suspect that is long gone....

You're right about the quality - I don't know of there is any better quality than Ogallala water.

There are few isolated spots. Our place sits on top of some pretty gypy water in Lamb county. RO for drinking and cooking or a good case of the scours is in your future.

Is that Ogallala or Santa Rosa? Santa Rosa is deeper, underlaying the Ogallala. Some areas that don't have much saturated thickness of the Ogallala, you'll see deeper wells drilled into the Santa Rosa, or Dockum formation.

EDIT: Looking at the map, Lamb County overlays the Edwards/Trinity

The OP's land is way north in the Panhandle, making the likelihood of good Ogallala much greater.

EDWARDS-TRINITY (HIGH PLAINS) AQUIFER

The Edwards-Trinity (High Plains) aquifer consists of sand and sandstone of the Trinity Stage and the younger limestone of the Fredericksburg and the Wa****a Stages, all of Cretaceous age. Despite its name, the aquifer is not part of either the Edwards-Trinity or the High Plains aquifers discussed previously in this chapter as principal aquifers. The aquifer underlies parts or all of 14 counties in the central part of the Southern High Plains. The aquifer is hydraulically connected to the overlying High Plains aquifer in many places. The average saturated thickness of rocks of the Trinity Stage is estimated to be 30 feet, and those of the Fredericksburg and the Wa****a Stages are estimated to be 20 feet. In most places, the sand and sandstone of the Trinity Stage are separated from the younger limestone strata by clay, marl, and shale beds. Water in the Trinity rocks is confined, as opposed to water-table conditions in the carbonate rocks. Regional ground-water movement is generally to the east-southeast and follows the dip of the rocks.

Yields of wells completed in the aquifer range from 50 to more than 1,000 gallons per minute; the largest yields are reported from wells in Hale and Lubbock Counties. Yields are largest where the water is in solution cavities, fractures, joints, and bedding planes in the carbonate rocks.

Water from the Edwards-Trinity (High Plains) aquifer usually is slightly to moderately saline and moderately to extremely hard, but the chemical quality is suitable for irrigation and secondary oil recovery. Withdrawal from the aquifer during 1985 was about 11.4 million gallons per day. About 89 percent of the water withdrawn was used for irrigation.

What's your email?

Based on the amount of things he had and the condition of the home, the timeline of the liquidation is going to stretch out. We'll be tackling the home and the equipment first and the land last, so it'll probably be awhile until we're ready to start that process.

I was wrong about the initial acreage. It's actually about 640 acres.

My condolences for your family's loss. Most folks intimate with the community know that steam tractor and know who owned it.

I strongly urge you to hire a realtor to help you and your dad with this process. This section of land is in irrigated country in eastern Hansford County. To help my point, you can pull up the property on google maps satellite view and see that it is surrounded by irrigated farmland with pivots to the east, north and northeast and a large playa lake to the south.

Lastly, I too am interested in this property and would like to participate in any process your family holds, private or public.
