There's no way the S trap on your toilet is frozen. Not inside the house unless it's down in the 20's inside your house.

That's an odd problem that I'm not sure is weather related.

Plumbing vent pipe blocked?

I'll check vent tomorrow. Clear of trees though and no way it's lumped with snow. Just started doing it today.

Could frost shut. Seems to fit the symptoms of slow draining.

Check the top or shove a stick down or what? If there's no blockage visible then what's the protocol?

Up north it happens at the end of pipe once exposed to air. Could use a flashlight to look in further if the end is clear but highly unlikely to freeze up much below the end of the pipe.

It's gunna gurgle a bunch if it's a vent problem. It'll be trying to suck air through the S trap.

If you've got a Home Depot open that you can get to near by go buy you a rigid toilet snake and run it through there. It doesn't sound weather related to me. Sounds to me like you've got a dookie + TP hung up in there.

I can't stress enough how cold it's gotta get to start causing problems with sanitary pipe. It's almost impossible. In fact I can't think of a scenario where it would be possible unless your plumbing system is already screwed up and has bellies in it holding water. Or you've got exposed sanitary piping which 99% of homes don't.

Time to check the main sewer line coming out of your house. Pull the main drain clean out cap and take a look. The drain line should be empty. If it's full you're backed up from a plug or your sewer system is overwhelmed. Can snake for a plug, but be warned that there may not be anywhere for the water to go. My water authority was advising people that the sewer was running slow in places because lift stations were without power.

If your sewer line has standing water, I would not screw the clean out cap back on. Just set it loose on top of the fitting it came out of. If the sewer backup gets worse, hopefully the overflow occurs in your yard instead of your house. Lesser of two evils...

Did you ever figure out the problem? Out of everyone's problems I've read on here yours has me the most perplexed. I'm interested in the outcome.
