I have to take some trees down in my backyard and a few in the front yard next year (2 acre property). I would like to replace them with trees with a higher canopy to not obstruct the view and perhaps deciduous to get some nice fall colors (Red Maple?).

I do plan on planting a Southern Magnolia in the back because I have a couple on my front yard and they are huge and look nice.

What is hearty, moderate to fast growing tree, that can get pretty tall (at least 40') which would add aesthetic beauty?

Red maple probably won't get that tall, but meets most of your other requests.

Yea I saw that, think it'd be a good tree off to the side of our view from the backyard/future deck. I know it might not fit my original description, but thinking of a couple pecan trees so they can cross pollenate.

Where is the best place to buy local trees? I've heard don't do big box stores because they don't necessarily sell native trees.

Bought 2 Red Maples from this place a few years ago that are doing really well. Good selection and prices.

Always been a fan of red oak and shumard oak.

Soil pH in Conroe would probably work for a white oak-fairly common to find them growing native up there. One of my favorite trees-I wish my soil ph at farm in Fayette county would allow me to plant some. Beautiful tree!

A red maple grows fast, but it's a weaker tree and subject to breakage/rot.

Red oaks (Shumard, etc) can be a good fit. Cherrybark oak (a variation of southern red oak) grows fast, and is strong, attractive, and disease resistant.

Yellow poplar (tulip tree) grows fast. Sheds some leaves early in late summer, but a very stately appearance. Not as much fall color as red oaks.

Elms and ash trees grow fast but can be susceptible to dutch elm disease and emerald ash borers.

I'm in the Conroe/Woodlands area and I'll echo the shumard. I have a few in the front that look good and a neighbor's that has incredible color every year. Supposed to be hearty but I had one die this year.

I also have a couple red maples that look nice.

I want to do a green Ash at some point. I've seen some with incredible yellows in the fall. Plus no acorns.

You want fast, tall, shade? Water oak. Native, hardy, will be big in 10-15 years
