When you don't get information on a story like this, and mass send outs of missing persons alerts it is because authorities are looking another direction. The parents have been told after a certain time that they are on the hook for rescue parties and stuff like that. My guess is the private investigators were hired by them.
When I lived in MT a HS girl tried to fake her death-disappearance, young folks don't think everything through as well, her family was on the hook for what I remember over 10 grand in search fees. I'm just not seeing this kid in the news enough.

He gone. He either disappeared on his own, or was taken by some bad hombres in connection with the drugs

I wish I could elaborate on this, I have been waiting to see my buddy who works in the sheriffs office to ask, he will usually give yes or no answers or indicate I'm if over there target.

I'll say that if some of the rumors are true I've heard locally (I'm not naive enough to spread it on here just yet, could be small town gossip) but, the folks who hint at the kid maybe being roped into something not good is possible for sure, and I don't think him being in hiding should be ruled out yet either.

So you basically know nothing other than a local LEO.

I bet the kid is "found" somewhere over Spring Break and will come back and tell a great tale of human trafficking.

I am saying, unfortunately, the young man is dead. Dude got his bell rung really well. Went to the pond like the dogs said he did. He went for a drink and passed out and drown. He is stuck in the muck down in the bottom of the pond and the divers just couldn't see him due to muddy water. He will be found in the next bad drought.

He is not in the pond. They drug it. And that mud is not deep enough unless you can force your way down. I hope he just wants to be gone and not someone killing him. Drugs get you into all kinds of situations and I hope parents are talking to their kids about this.

Those ponds are not deep enough for divers, you can wade through them. I think short of house to house searches they have been pretty thorough. My bad story is after killing him they drug him to the pond and then took him away.

They actually dragged it, then drained it out and busted the tank dam to check a pipe. He's not in the pipe. Multiple different dogs hit on a the tank dam. But nothing was there.

Having grown up in that area, worked in hunted in and just plain spent good times in Luling...the folks there are good. My guess is the investigation will end up getting info from someone there and they solve it.

I'm curious if it's a remote area, how did the people who found the car happen upon it? Do they live near, heard something. Just passing through?

You can look at the section of the road on google maps. It's a dirt road. If you're using highways to get home, if you're on a dirt road, you know you missed a turn.

I don't buy the mastermind purposefully disappeared theory. He's just a college kid. He would have broken discipline by now. Someone would know something.

Alone and altered mental status theory - problem is the lack of a body. How does he die of exposure, but the body can't be found.

Foul play theory - lack of motive. No direct evidence. Lack of body.

A volunteer fireman drove by and saw the accident scene and called it in. Not sure why he was in the area.

It's not that remote. People live on the road, I'm sure it gets regular daily traffic. Just remote for someone who was supposed to be heading home on a highway.

They could have reported it a few ways for the guy that found the car...it's the fact that he is a volunteer fireman with some common sense and probably called it in without going through everything. It really is a good town...smelly but a good town.

Caldwell County isn't exactly Brewster County in terms of remoteness.

If he is dead, he'll likely end up close enough to where car was found to get a "how did they miss him". If nefarious acts are in play, then likely 5-7 miles out.

Count me in the "dead in the woods" crowd.
I know that disappoints the spy novelists on this thread but it's far and away the simplest explanation.

Acute brain injury in the accident leading to acute onset of neurogenic fever where he feels extremely hot. At first he gathers his valuables. He heads up the road, he drops his valuables. Continues on road, feels incredibly hot, removes all his clothing, can't bare the touch of anything including watch.

Like a form of neurogenic fever. Of course the problem is still where is the body?

Assuming he's passed, with each passing day we have less of a chance of understanding what happened, even if his body is found. A weathered femur may give closure, but won't necessarily say why.

About 20 years ago I was on a deer lease in Clyde. Hunted opening weekend on the edge of a wheat field near a creek. Sat there a couple of days. A couple of days after I left, a missing student was found dead on the ranch where I was hunting. Went back the next week and looked at the flags set up at the scene. About 25 yards from where I was sitting. Point being, it is easy to overlook someone in the woods if there is plenty of cover.

The deceased in the woods does make perfect sense ignoring the fact that scent dogs never picked up anything but his trail to the pond.

That fact leads me to 2 questions...

A) If he's dead in the woods why didn't they find a scent trail leading up the road or to the body?

B) If he's dead in the woods how can his scent trail that disappears at the pond be explained?

I'm all through making guessing at to what happened because it's just too odd.
shiftyandquick
How long do you want to ignore this user?
No idea. Maybe he was naked in the pond and thus most of his scent was washed away when he exited the pond and the dogs couldn't pick up on it?
UhOhNoAgTag
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Regarding the scent, why didn't it lead to the backpack and his clothes or were they on the way to the pond? I guess they found clothes first.

When did they bring in the dogs and what item did they follow sent from? I have no idea how that works.
John Cocktolstoy
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I thought about him going into the pond to throw off the dogs, would be super cold and I think dogs would still hit on his bare feet. Just going to have to wait this one out and see what turns up.
