Thats a good idea.

Also the ECM on the car might have some useable data as well. I've heard that some cars will save a data log if there is a collision. On some cars, I think there is a switch that deactivates the passenger airbag if no one is sitting in the seat. Maybe there is some way to tell if someone else was in the car.

If he's cruising at the speed limit from the light in luling to crash site is probably 7 to 10 minutes down a very desolate dark road.

Since theories are being tossed around........here's what jumps out at me.

He's traveling along with no worry about his digital footprint. He gets/sends a snap, and goes dark. That seems to suggest a meeting he doesn't want known. Obviously, with the weed in his backpack, he dabbles in drugs. He could have been picking up or dropping off cash/drugs and it went sideways, but that doesn't really mesh with the scene.
What seems more plausible is that he wanted to disappear. Maybe he got in over his head with the drugs. Either didn't want to face his family, or owes someone some serious cash (which would fall back to a meeting). It just doesn't fit right that he went dark on his phone.

The gut feeling is that it's the combination of drugs and wanting to disappear. The first thought is that he was dealing or a mule. For whatever reason, he wanted out of the situation.

Or he could have just gone off the deep end, said eff it, and flew the coop to go live in the forest somewhere.

good to see the County be more forthcoming with information to the public, but also suggests they're at a dead-end, i suppose.

This case is still as head scratching as it was a few days in - so strange. I'm curious if the facts and surveillance about his whereabouts from San Marcos up to Luling actually show him and show him driving the vehicle? it's to the point where evidence of him personally via CCTV needs to be presented/in-hand - the technology evidence notwithstanding.

if they have that hopefully they'll expand the search in the area and re-visit searched areas. If the evidence suggests he was solo, as they have, and assume he was solo and wandered off, someone doesn't just disappear like a fart in the wind.

This article shows pictures of the car, blood stain on clothing, items in the road, marijuana.

https://knue.com/officials-release-new-timeline-photos-in-disappearance-of-jason-landry/

Also it seems that they have a picture within an hour of his disappearance, I would guess that picture would show evidence he was in his car.

I think those pics are from before he left San Marcos.

Yeah, I think you're right. It's only 28 min drive from San Marcos to Luling.

I've seen the pics, and read the recent report, and understand what was found.

These basic questions can be dismissed with a video snapshot at the red light in town, or something. if you dont have it, say it in the release, but again, nothing provided recently is any more helpful than they were a few days in. I'm suprised the recent update wasn't enough to eliminate ANY.

So, five scenerios are still on the table:

1) Got lost and overcorrected. Head trauma and wondered off. Search efforts insufficent.

2) Under the influence (possible based on evidence). Not in his right might and wondered off.

3) Under the influence (possible based on evidence). Got in an accident solo because of above. Had wherewithal to know what happened but decided disappearing/off the radar was best option.

4) Something totally nefarious involving multiple parties. One's mind can go down any speculative rabbit hole but no evidence presented to date to support this.

5) Something totally nefarious and was never driving and technology used to smoke screen investigators. Highly unlikely, IMO

Yep, he had an hour from the time he crossed 80/183 and accident site. Could have panicked (car appeared to be undriveable) and ran off.

Certainly the only clothes he had with him weren't just the tshirt and shorts and slide sandals he was wearing/ found? Wasn't it like 40 degrees?

Could he have had a 2nd phone to "conduct business"?

who knows.

I just pray for the family and hope they know more and are able to stay positive. Some suggestions I've seen online about the father's involvement because he showed up that night I find disgusting. Any father including myself would react the same way.

I do think the nuanced information about the relationships is important, however, esp if you have/use weed and your old man is a pastor. Is that a big deal for a college kiddo? No. Is it a big deal here? maybe, idk. the dynamics of his personality and relationships are important I would presume.

One of the biggest questions I have had this entire time is why did he leave so late? I've left late at night and/or driven all night on trips before but not to my parent's house. My parents wouldn't have been happy with me showing up at 2AM. I can't imagine many would; I know I wouldn't be okay with my daughter doing that. Why not just get an early start?

I have not seen a mention of a cash reward offered for info in the case. That would be my thought to offer a decent reward and see if it smokes out any new info. Next would be to re re-search the area. Including any ponds already searched.
Thoughts and prayers for the family.

May simply be a bad photo, but that weed looks off to me. Looks more like what I imagine that synthetic **** would look like.

The land/air search seems thorough. Not to be insensitive toward this tragedy, but if an individual, sans clothing, walked away from the accident scene in the weather conditions described, where would he go? If he walked from the scene and perished from the elements, it possible that coyotes and hogs would scavange a corpse to the point where few remains are to be found.

I know at A&M back in the day we were required to be out of the dorms the last day of finals. If you had a 3pm final, you had to be ready to roll afterwards. I know I got a few late starts back after that since I would usually come back to the dorms, pack up, eat dinner and then get on the road.

I would hope the police have been through those final days on campus pretty thoroughly to know if something was out of the realm of normal for him.

Back to the nuanced details that matter. Was he an outdoor kid, eagle scout, etc that could hike 100 miles w/ a gallon of water and bag of snacks? Or was be a gamer type that was scared of his own shadow when be went outside at night?

I've done it plenty of times. Get off work. Eat dinner. Pack. Leave at 10 or 11. I've made the drive from SA to Houston or CS at 10 or 11 more times than I can count.

Probably doesn't matter really. 40 degrees at night with no clothes or shoes on you ain't gonna get that far.

(Unless you are that dude from the Pine Barrens episode of Sopranos)

I'll right there with you. I've made my fair share of stupid driving decisions (all nighters to Georgia, Ruidoso, San Diego, rolling into College Station at 4AM, leaving College Station at 2AM after packing for the end of the semester, etc.). I understand why a college kid would make that drive at that time because I did it, but I didn't have parents to worry about. I never would have left home or shown up to home that late if my parents had been alive; unless there was some extenuating circumstance that I thought my parents would understand or that I felt outweighed the wrath of my parents. All of my friends that I've talked to have agreed with this. It very well could be just the type of people I hang around with, but I have thought his time of departure was strange for a while.

Edit to add that I and my parents likely would have felt differently if I had a 7 hour drive or something but his drive was just under 3 hours.

Turning off the Waze is also a question for me. I use Waze pretty regularly on long trips even when I know where I am going. I only turn it off when I get to my destination or if I need to save battery or data. If I get lost at night, I would not turn off Waze.

That is correct with regard to airbags, it's been that way for quite some time now. My dad passed out while driving in his 04 Suburban and totaled it while probably going about 45. Only the drivers side airbag blew.

The insurance companies demanded that due to how expensive it is to replace airbags.

huh. I thought it was to sense if someone small was in the seat, as a safety feature.
The Fife

That was what I always thought. Pretty sure this came around shortly after there was an off switch for the passenger side for things like regular cab trucks and Miatas. My single cab truck is way too old for airbags so I'm not sure whether that switch exists any more, but I thought a seat occupied sensor replaced the switch.

edit: I could see insurance companies being in favor of the switch on top of expense of replacing airbags because it'll set off an idiot light if there's a passenger who isn't buckled in. My '00 Toyota has one of those so my guess is the seat unoccupied/no passenger side airbag deployment became a thing in the '90s.

Hard to criticize the dad. Seems like he was stuck doing the job that the law enforcement failed to do. And he was probably the one who insisted that law enforcement start investigating it.

The lack of a proper crime scene investigation in this case is a big failing.

No fault on dad at all. I think small town PD possibly wasn't used to handling this type of case?

If I open or even use another app while running Waze, it oftentimes shuts down Waze forcing me to restart. Could have happened here.

Good point. I had not thought of that. It does the same for me.

I wanna point out that if this incident had occurred 800 miles to the west or north, the whole 'illegal narcotics' would be a total non issue.

And to the extent applicable, the K2 / chinese synthetic weed theory would be a non-issue as well.

Also, if this was a homicide involving some drug related dispute ... also, probably a non issue.

Just sayin.
