If you want to go custom Alamo Precision has riles in your budget. Heard those are great.

I've shot a Browning A-Bolt in .300 Win Mag for 10+ years now. It's been an excellent rifle for multiple big game trips. User-friendly for mountain or desert hunting trips, where walking miles and miles each day is required. Given the performance, I wouldn't hesitate to suggest looking at their X-Bolt model.

For 3k I'm building my own.

Ok, a few questions... budget for rifle only or including optics? What are you wanting to do with it?

3k for the gun. I'm going to put a swaro z6 or the Leupold another poster mentioned. I'm looking for all around gun I can shoot 140 grain at whitetail but also use out west for mulies, elk or antelope.

3k I would buy a used model 70 stainless classic, a bartlein barrel off of red hawk or bugholes and have LRI build you something and put it in a McMillan to your liking. Buy all the parts have it customed to the weight, barrel length, cerakote color you want. Totally custom.

If you wanted something less than 300 win mag I would recommend any of the newer push feeds tikka, bergara, etc but when you say 300 wm it suggests to me you might want to go after something with teeth hence the model 70.

I'm getting a Savage 110 High Country in 300 Win this year. I'll let ya know how I like it.

My nephew is a big hunter and lives in Wyoming. He told me his gunsmith said he works on more Christianson guns(made in Wyoming) than any other brand. I like the look of the Sako but there twist rate seems off vs Fierce and a few other guns.

Same gun I'm wanting to get.

I get that I'm one data point, but mine has been flawless.

Also, with the caveat that I'm bigger than average at 6'6", but I shouldered over 100 rifles at Dallas Safari a few years back, from stock Remingtons to $10k customs, and the 2 that felt the most natural were both Christiansen's.

Yeah that's a stock issue. Luxury of getting one built is having one that fits you. I'm a lefty so it's hard for me to get the rifle I want in a stock gun. The better offerings aren't available in lefty

Christiansen is a good rifle but for some reason they have has QC issues now that they have ramped up production. Most will be perfect, but you hear more about the failures than the 99% that are perfect.

The thing is, unless you are having a stock carved just for you, you are still ordering a prefab. You might have a dozen prefab options, with customizations on top, but if it doesn't fit, it doesn't fit.

I really wanted to buy one from Horizon, aka the Aggie custom shop, but none of their dozen stocks felt half as good as the Christiansen.

Hope they get any QC issues worked out.
