I have a new Rem 700 SPS Tactical 300 Blackout,16" barrel. I want to switch the bottom metal to accept a magazine. Would be nice to accept AR mags for 10 or 30 rd BO mags. Anyone have any suggestions. I am a bit overwhelmed by all the options and have never switched the bottom metal on a gun. I understand the Hogue stock sucks too, not sure how much of a difference that makes?

If you aren't in love with the stock as well, you might look at the KRG Bravo for an affordable replacement that would accept AICS style magazines. You can just bolt your barreled action in.

Can't you purchase the bottom metal plate from Magpul?

As indicated above, there are several options, most of which will require you to modify your stock or change stocks. If you are not willing to do that, then your list of options narrows significantly.

I checked the website and I don't see a bottom metal kit from magpul for the 5.56/300 blk out cartridge. May can find something similar through another source?

I have the same gun in .308 and used the Magpul kit to adapt the original stock to accept a magazine. Worked out great. You will need to carve out quite a bit of material with a dremel tool but it's not a difficult project. For me, I had pretty much given up on the original Hogue stock and was using a magpul hunter 700. Replacing the bottom metal on the hogue was just for fun and I thought I might want to switch back to the hogue for riding around in the jeep/polaris at the deer lease. Turns out, I now prefer the hogue over the magpul stock. I added an adjustable cheek riser and a small rail piece on the front for my bipod to attach to. Works great for bouncing around the lease and I can adjust the cheek piece up for prone long range shooting.

Thanks for replies.

If I got the Magpul hunter stock and the bottom metal for short action, could I just use 5.56 / 300bo AICS mags?

I guess the confusion I have is if the bottom metal for short action will accommodate the 300bo mags.

The Magpul Hunter SA will accept AICS patterned 5.56 mags. Magpul sells a 10rnd AICS 5.56 mag for $40 on their site.

I would double check that with magpul. The short action stock and bottom metal kit accepts a specific .308 magazine. The 300 BO/5.56 mags are different dimensions. I can check mine later today and see if it will take the smaller 300 BO/5.56 mag but I doubt it. If I remember correctly, the magpul mags for my AR10 won't even fit the short action bottom metal kit. They are all different.

Nevermind, I see what texags08 is talking about. Looks like they have the AICS mag for 5.56/300 BO coming soon. That should fit that bottom metal kit.

Once, those become available, I'd buy that AICS mag and the short action bottom metal kit. Look at it and see if you think you can easily adapt your hogue stock to work with that bottom metal kit. If not, you can buy the hunter 700 stock and it all goes together super easy. You will need to buy that bottom metal kit either way.
