Anyone ever used alder for smoking?

That's would be the easiest thing for me to source up here. Might be able to find apple or cherry if i can find someone with a tree that needs to come down, but alder is much more abundant.

Picked up a cheap newer model Oklahoma Joe today. Really missing the LyfeTyme smoker I sold to a poster on here, but this thing is a hell of a lot easier to move around.

I see people using it to smoke salmon on a lot of those Alaska shows. Never heard of people using it for brisket or ribs, but I live in Texas where its not very common.

It's similar to Pecan wood and has a slightly sweet mild smoke flavor. I was given some years back by family member that lives up Northwest and I used it to smoke beef, chicken and pork. I'd keep some on hand to use sometimes if you can find it here in Texas with out having to order it.
