They look cool, the YouTube videos are the bomb, but I wonder how practical they are. Anyone have a review? There are a lot of knock offs too. Either way, I could always use another knife, so I might make it an Xmas gift for me. Unless the OB says no way.

I have a knock off but I'm not real crazy about it. I have a Damascus cleaver that works better for me.

Thanks. As you can see it's so nice, it's become a showpiece of the kitchen and hardly used. Cool that you could recognize it.

Other than looking cooler how do they handle compared to a regular chef's knife?

That'll run you $250 and a trip back to agrams to get my name ground out.

It's as sharp as a chefs knife and has a good sweep but it doesn't handle at all like a chef's knife. It's heavy.

hah, that is more common than I like to think (its almost always the wife who doesn't let it get cut on)

all I've done all weekend is cutting board orders for christmas.... and there is rough stock for about 20 large boards (20x25-30) out of sight..

Random question: how often do you go through blades? What brand of blades do you typically purchase?

Frued is my go to. I I like the Forrest Woodworker II when I can find them on sale, but they are pricey at regular price.

I probably drop off tablesaw blades once every quarter to get sharpened at a local shop. I have about 4-5 blades on hand for my tablesaw that I cycle through. The golf ball bag stands I just completed with Ipe dulled several blades very quickly, even though I imagine I didn't do more than 100 linear feet of cutting.
