If so, what's your experience? And what gun do you use? Have always hunted bolt action but wanted to try something new potentially.

I've taken my 30-30 to the blind a few times but haven't shot anything with it yet.
Anybody got recommendations for better sights than the stock ones on a Marlin? I don't want to put a scope on it but wouldn't mind a little better iron sights.

I hunt with a Henry .30-30 lever action with the octagon barrel. Upgraded the standard iron sights to a Skinner peep sight. It's alot of fun and a bit more challenging that way. You can easily mount a scope though if you prefer. I just like the aesthetics of a plain brass lever action. It is a bit heavier however.
I've used the 1895 in 45-70 a time or two. Great to clear out the sinuses. Very accurate for an iron sight weapon.Doc Hayworth said:
I use my 1895 45-70 for deer and hogs. I also use a 1894 in 44 mag for hogs and deer
This I have a Model 88 that dates to 1956. I have not hunted with it in a few years, might need to drag it out this year. It likes the 150 core locks too.FSGuide said:
My first deer rifle as a kid was a Winchester model 88 chambered in .308. I still use it several times a year. It's probably more accurate than I am. I have already dirt napped 8 hogs with it this month. Missed a few but they were running. It loves to eat the basic 150 grain core lokt
I have this same gun, inherited it from my grandfather. Shot my last doe with it open sights. Been a long time since I found ammo for it. If I'm ever in a store and see it I buy it, and it's been that way since way before 2020.jh88ag said:
Took my first deer as a kid with this 300 Savage. It was my first time to shoot the gun and I was not ready for the recoil. But those scars are long since healed.
