If so, what's your experience? And what gun do you use? Have always hunted bolt action but wanted to try something new potentially.

I've got a lever in 243 and have shot a few does.........much like you, I just wanted to try something different.

Use a classic 30-30 from time to time. Hornady Leverevolution rounds are by far the best I've shot from any lever guns. Also pig hunt with my .45-70 lever gun.

For the longest time I hunted with my passed down Marlin 30-30. With newer bullets it takes any shot I need up to 150 yards (most shots are under 100 on our lease). It was my Dad's first hunting rifle. This weekend it is getting passed on to my 9 year old son.

I can load the lever action faster than my bolt and it was lighter to carry for the days I wanted to stalk hunt.

I hunt with a Henry .30-30 lever action with the octagon barrel. Upgraded the standard iron sights to a Skinner peep sight. It's alot of fun and a bit more challenging that way. You can easily mount a scope though if you prefer. I just like the aesthetics of a plain brass lever action. It is a bit heavier however.

I do when I'm hunting on foot in the brush or in the woods. Killed my biggest deer with a lever 30-30 a week after my grandpa gave it to me as a graduation gift.

Savage model 99 lever action .243. Been hunting with it since I was 13. Love the rifle and results.

I hunt with a 336C in 35Rem when in more wooded areas. I like the compactness because it doesn't seem to snag branches like my Rem 700 when stalking through the woods.

I've been using Browning 308 for last 40 years. Think it's model 81 without looking at it. Very accurate and I think it's pretty . Bought it from Oshmans with paper route money when I was 16.Follow up shots are a snap when I get into pigs

I got a Marlin 336CS 30/30 for my 11th birthday, and it has killed an awful lot of deer.

I've taken my 30-30 to the blind a few times but haven't shot anything with it yet.

Anybody got recommendations for better sights than the stock ones on a Marlin? I don't want to put a scope on it but wouldn't mind a little better iron sights.

All the time: 1940 Savage 99 in 300 Savage. "El Paso" 3x Weaver scope, '50s vintage. My favorite <200m hunting rifle.

Hunted for years with a Marlin 30-30 with 3X9 scope, never failed me, even at 125 yards, considered getting a more flat shooting replacement, felt wrong to change- like an old pickup you are used to.

This was my next question, I imagine most go without a scope?

I shot my first deer with my Marlin 30-30. My FIL hunts with a Browning BLR in 7mm-08. It is a sweet shooting gun and I kind of want to get one for myself.

Did you use the barrel mount or receiver mounted peep sight? Think I'm going to do this on mine. Did you change the front sight?

Took my first deer as a kid with this 300 Savage. It was my first time to shoot the gun and I was not ready for the recoil. But those scars are long since healed.

My first deer rifle as a kid was a Winchester model 88 chambered in .308. I still use it several times a year. It's probably more accurate than I am. I have already dirt napped 8 hogs with it this month. Missed a few but they were running. It loves to eat the basic 150 grain core lokt

Marlin 30-30 for anything in east Texas less than 150 yard. Always fun to shoot and can put down several pigs on the run

I've used the 1895 in 45-70 a time or two. Great to clear out the sinuses. Very accurate for an iron sight weapon.

Winchester in .30-.30 that my great grandfather bought and has probably killed hundreds of deer.

My dad put a scope on it when he was a kid but I took it off and as long as I have a say it will stay that way.

Have a scoped .30-30 I shot my first deer, and many other with. Believe my dad got it from his grandfather. Lots of things have been killed with it.

I've got a scoped .30-30 as well, shot my first deer with it. Was my grand-daddy's and my dad's before it was passed down to me. I take it on most of our hunts as a secondary option if the 7mm/300blk/6.5CM have an issue.

Its a certified tack driver from 0-100yds.

I also have a Marlin 45-70 for dinosaurs

This I have a Model 88 that dates to 1956. I have not hunted with it in a few years, might need to drag it out this year. It likes the 150 core locks too.

I also have a Marlin 336C and a Win Model 94. Have not hunted with them lately either.

I have this same gun, inherited it from my grandfather. Shot my last doe with it open sights. Been a long time since I found ammo for it. If I'm ever in a store and see it I buy it, and it's been that way since way before 2020.
