Need help to locate a hydraulic cylinder. It's off a very old pecan shaker. Right now we are dead in the water since the shaker is down. They do not make the Repair kits anymore.

Located in DeWitt Co.

They don't have the correct size.

Try Surpluscenter.com. Take measurements of the cylinder.

Have you tried the tractor dealerships in Victoria like Hlavinka or Shoppa's? I would also do a google search for hydraulic supplies and repairs in that area and see what pops up. You might not be able to find an exact match but as long as you can find one with the correct barrel and rod length, you should be able to make it work.

Ag cylinders are usually really simple and most hydraulic shops should carry parts to repair them. Unless you bent something, I bet a shop can get the cylinder to limp along to finish harvesting.

I realize that you probably prefer a quick bolt-on replacement.

But, can you elaborate a little on what the problem is? If it's just seals I'd take it to the hydraulic shop and have them match them up.

If it's something else -- check out grainger.com for a possible match. I also used to get paper catalogs from hydraulics supply houses and they had cylinders like crazy. Unfortunately, I can't recall some names at the moment.

Finally, if you've got a fluid leak that's not super bad, and you don't mind 'snake oil', Lucas has a dedicated hydraulic leak sealer product.

Lucas Hydraulic Oil Booster and Stop Leak

FWIW, I've used that product on an old tractor -- it didn't help me but I wouldn't hesitate to try it again if I got in a jam. Some guys have had good results with it.

Good luck.

I've ordered them off Amazon.com for cheap before. Just put in the ends, length, type you need.

Also, they're very simple inside and a broken seal is an easy fix usually. Seals are typically of standard sizes.

Double or single action, etc. also, fitting types or threading, or you may have to order fittings to go with it to match your hoses.

Magister Hydraulics

I ordered a couple of these to replace some cylinders on the front end loader of my tractor. Well build, not expensive, have held up just fine. They make a range of sizes.

It is seals, but this thing is old and took it to the preferred place in Victoria and they told us there are no parts to fit the dimensions.

The issue is when we raise the Arm, fluid shoots out the top. It has 2 cylinders to raise the arm.

Looks like we might be able to get it repaired at a place in McQueeney.

Taking it there now to see.

Bailey Hydraulics

What size do you need? I work for a hydraulic distributor in Texas and can point you in the right direction if we do not have anything. With ag cylinders like that it may be more cost effective to buy 2 cylinders than getting that one repaired. You can purchase directly from Bailey for cheap and they stock a ton.

Custom seals are now easy to get but expensive. Motion industries can do it if you can get help from the right guy

sounds like the place in Victoria didnt know what they were doing. It is not that hard to match up seals.

Everything but majority of our customers have mobile equipment (ag, mining, oilfield, construction, utilities, etc.), and with that we do a good amount of control systems. Lately I have been doing a lot of all-electric or electric based systems with the automotive battery based systems becoming more affordable.

As someone mentioned, you'd probably be best off to buy a new pair. If one is bad, the other may not be far behind. And if a little bit different size will still work, you'll want the same diameter and stroke on both.

Don't think it has to be an exact match. The original builders probably just grabbed what was on the shelf. Get something close and make it work.

Should be this afternoon. Will know more later.

The cylinder is old school and that was causing the issues.

Hopefully the repair holds up for a couple weeks to get the pecans picked.

We will start running equipment more often.

What is the going rate for labor to rebuild cylinders? What is an average rate for parts? Have some John Deere 726 loader cylinders (the lift cylinders)that need seal kits and happy to give someone besides Deere some business in central Texas.

I also believe that if you are having one culinder built or replaced. I would do the other one also

In my mind the rebuilt one will be stronger than the old one and will eventually make it leak. But I really dont know it is just my way of thinking. More is better

Where are you located? There is a guy in Copperas Cove that does mobile hydraulic repair.

We did one tilt cylinder, and within a year, were doing the other side. And now less than a few months later, one boom cylinder is starting to leak.

I think it has to do with the age of the loader more than anything.

What did they charge you labor to get it done? Would you recommend them?
