A buddy of mine built probably the most insane deer blind I have ever seen. I knew I needed to post it here so you guys could check it out. It is covered in 24 gauge sheet metal, the entire thing is insulated, it has electrical run through the walls, and lastly it has 2 fans, a 32" tv, and a 10,000 BTU heater. The best part is it was built by an Aggie! Below is a link to his website where you can get your own step by step plans to build your own. They are very thorough because he is an engineer. Hope you guys enjoy!

Those stairs are terrifying. Did he take his cues from the guy building the bridge for log trucks?

It's just called deer hunting in Texas.

He put a railing on which is in the video. Unfortunately the pictures I posted were before he put the railing up.

A railing doesn't help when treads are unsupported. Well, it might for a few seconds, anyway.

That is a nice blind but if that is the craziest blind you've ever seen, I guess you've never been to the TTHA shows or to a DSC show? They had a blind at the DSC last year that the manufacturer would deliver & set up for you and the cost of the blind included the 2 days of labor required for the setup. You had to have a concrete pad poured for it before they could deliver it and set it up though.

This is a little different than sitting on a five gallon bucket next to a fence line.

Geez, any idea on cost? I have no idea what the steel would run but i am guessing a few grand easily. Assuming it would last a good long while, I can see why the investment is worth it

That was my question, what do materials cost?

How far from his feeder will he be "hunting"? 30-40 yards?

He said he bought ten 10' X 4' panels and they were $42 a panel.

Owner of a company I used to work for had 5000 acre high fenced game ranch. His blind had a refrigerator. toilet, TV and a couch in it. The rifle rests in the shooting windows were padded and covered with hair on Axis hide

All that and he built the base out of lumber?

Metal would have been the way to go.

Along with concreting some metal footings in the ground and bolting it down. Wouldn't need the guywires then to walk into and throttle yourself with in the dark of night while intoxicated..

Pretty sweet build but yeah, I would have gone with metal or at least elevator brackets that spread the base out.

I've sat in some tall blinds that were vertical 4x4's and that **** can get scary!

I completely agree. Less focus on the style, and more on structural substance. A tv is nice, but so is a blind that will stay upright and properly built stairs. That cantilevered landing on straight legs makes me nervous too.

Yes, I agree with all of this. Can't imagine not building the base and stairs out of metal after all of that work. Also, why not at least cantilever all the way down to the main base leg/skid bottom?

Well, la di dah. Look at King Fauntleroy and Prince Windsor and their bougieousie hunting set ups.

My set up growing up was usually a rock, or the ground.

This. I learned the hard way that you can step through unsupported treads at the most inopportune time.

He should at least block the treads on each side. It doesn't take much material or time.

I also like the tie downs. I can't imagine anything less than hurricane force winds moving that thing.

You'd be surprised what wind loads on a big box can be. My former boss built a 10x10 monster blind with the intent of putting it up 18 ft in the air. I ran the numbers for post embedment depth. He was shocked that 18" and a bag of sackcrete wasn't sufficient.

While this isn't quite the same thing, it's still not a sufficient footprint for my comfort. The older my family members and I get, the less willing I am to screw around on something risky. The attitude of "it's just a deer blind" is terrifying when I think about my dad or my little ones. Just look at all the YouTube fail videos.

Yep..... my best whitetail to date was when i was on a fenceline sitting on a 2X10 inside of three stacked rear tractor tires!

But damn..... this is a very nice set-up! (I'd prolly fall asleep in that thing and not see anything)
