I want to fly fish for some carp close to home in Dallas.

Anyone have any good spots they want to share?

I'm aware of Ray Roberts but want something even closer than that. I'm in NE Dallas.

sorry not closer to you but I've never seen as many carp as I saw recently when I visited the Richland Creek WMA North unit. The wetlands areas along the road at the North end of the wma were just boiling with carp. might be worth the drive to go check it out after hunting season is over. You have to have an APH but it is open for fishing.

Just south of the dam(on the North side of the Hwy) at Richland Chambers lake near Corsicana. Just looked at a map and it's a little bit further than I thought from Dallas at about 1.5 hours.

Are these grass or common carp?

From my little experience, common carp are the ones you want to target, as grass carp are pretty much impossible to catch.

Negative.

Grassers are more difficult for sure but they're definitely catchable on the fly.

About this time of year 5 years ago I took a day off to fish the Brazos below PK @ Hwy 16. Usually I wade downstream of the bridge, but on this day I want upstream toward the dam, and about 100yds from the bridge the river gets wide and shallow and it looked like the entire river was boiling. There had to be over 1000 carp in a 2-3 acre area. I tried and tried to get one to take my fly, but it was maddening. I have no idea why they were there. I went back the following week and no sign of them. Craziest thing I've ever seen. I could have used a dig net to catch hundreds of them, but wanted to see what a giant one would feel like on a 5wt.

Back in the old Texas Flyer Report days, there was a legendary guy who only fished carp. I even took a lesson from him. Can't remember his name for the life of me, but he guides all around White Rock and the Trinity. He was famous for catching huge carp behind grocery stores and stuff all over town. Maybe an OB'r will recall who I'm talking about....maybe Longhair Dave???

up on the red river at the dam on texoma, where. the generators were off and the rover was low, I always used to see vietnamese/thai/phillipinos use cast nets to catch them by the truck load
