What are some desirable types for duck food?

Have a variety growing but looking for input on what types to potentially flood in this year

Currently have Indiangrass, different types of sprangletop and a lot of white seed smartweed (although I heard that's not really desirable that they prefer the pink smartweed)

Thank you for any advice

Depends on the duck some. Pintail and especially greenwing teal seem to really like shallow flooded bermuda. Wigeon like green rye grass. Gadwall are more of an aquatic vegetation like musk grass or especially duck weed. Jap millet is always a good broad option. It's not just the seed they are after. It often gets loaded with invertebrates as it breaks down. In my experience, smartweed is highly overrated, regardless of color. Its also more woody than the grasses and can really choke out your water if you don't watch it. Id definitely take the sprangletop and any other gass over the smartweed.

The species of grass you're able to grow will be largely dependent on your ability to control the water level. Is this a field that floods in the winter, or an area that you're able to flood, drawdown, reflood, etc.?
