Bahamas Fishing Destination?

Looking for some recommendations on a place for a group of guys(probably 4) to go fishing after all this 'rona stuff settles out.

I am thinking the "Port Mansfield" of the Bahamas - i.e. you really do not go there unless you are wanting to fish. Do not care about night life, bars etc.

In a perfect world we could fish flats, inshore and offshore. Not interested in fly fishing at this time - unless it would be reasonable (easy) for newbies to pick up and the fish are that dumb/plentiful that we could catch them.

TIA

Lots of choices. Bimini, Lyford Cay (if you want more amenities), and Abacos (out islands) to name a few. Prefer the vibe on Abacos to the others, personally.

With Bimini being so close to Miami I am guessing there is alot of fishing pressure because it is so easy to get to. If I am wrong please let me know.

Lyford Cay looks like alot fancier than we are interested in.

The Abacos looks interesting - any specific places you can recommend in the Abacos.

Abacos: I really love Hope Town. The Abaco Inn is great. Treasure Cay also good option.

Bimini still holds international fishing tournaments on the regular. I can't comment on the current status of the fishery, but I imagine there's been reduced pressure this last year. It's easy and I believe boating/fishing is the main draw.

Lyford Cay is not a stand-along island, but a part of New Providence (NP). You're correct, it's quite ritzy. Plenty of places to stay on NP other than in Lyford. On the whole, New Providence mixes touristy crap with island poverty and has few charms unless you seek out the local places. I happen to enjoy the local hole in the wall joints, so it suits me. The mega resorts on NP (Atlantis / Baha Mar) aren't really my thing, but the family loves them -- nice, but it's like you never left the US.

Abacos was one of the hardest hit areas by Dorian just a little over a year ago. We were in nassau in February and the locals said abacos was in bad shape at that time. Not sure how quickly it has recovered.

We want to Harbour Island last year and used a charter out of Spanish Wells

Hawk's Nest on Cat Island.

The only reason to go is for the fishing, but it was awesome. You can spend a few days and hit both offshore and chase bonefish with flys.

It's been 4-5 years since I've been there - you can (could?) get to Cat Island via commercial flight and it was 100% fishing once you got to Hawks Nest. Definitely on my list of places to go back to.

Abaco Inn is open. I would call ahead and check on availability. That said, it was indeed hit very hard and many there are still getting their lives back together. Expect a lack of waterfront places to eat.

Alternatively, they should check out:

Elethura: Spainsh Wells or Harbor Island
Exumas: Staniel Cay

Asked a buddy who suggested:
The west side of Andros, if it's just a guys trip. This is apparently a hard core fishing destination -- don't take the wives.

I've always wanted to run across from Florida. 2-3 hours and you are there, all you need is a reliable seaworthy boat with the legs and to do the proper paperwork.

Don't have a lodge for you but I'll +1 the Andros recco. Largest of the islands and the fewest people/development. Another interesting thing about Andros is it's proximity to the TOUNGE OF THE OCEAN. A really deep trench that once hid German UBoats. The deep water makes flats and blue water fishing both possible with ease. Most people go down there to throw flies at bone fish. Would not recommend learning, to fly fish, down there if your group is full of first timers-- might be frustrating. Also, would double check and confirm all accommodations with recent affirmations given the recent hurricane. I think some places were hit harder than others.
